Here's a good place to comment on and link or give info on your favourite (niche?)music.

Oh and if you're like me and didn't know about it, here is a great music video thread in 'toxic' : http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=37052&start=75

I'd like to suggest that if you embed something, just embed the cover art.
Just provide the link and description to video/audio.

When 'viewing', right click, open independantly, and let it play in the background. I don't even watch the videos. They are usually no where close to what the music can do by itself.

Some of my top recommendations that you may not have heard of.
Genre is pretty much symphonic metal for these three.

Nightwish- Amaramth. nw.jpg
Finnish metal. I just got some albums this year, and love these guys-
Tarja's and Anette's voices!

They have alot of albums-all great.
Favorite album: Scenes from a memory

So many good songs on it, but this is maybe best. I think he's talking to a psycologist?

Awesome music, vocals, songwriting.
This is a cover but a rare instance of improvement from original imo
Don't fear the reaper

Also check out some of their other fan-favorite songs: "and love said no, heartache every moment, poison girl, funeral of hearts"

I totally agree about preferring not to watch a video of whatever is involved with music, to me it is destructive to music.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFpcRW7OBl0 Kevin Macleod - healing
Purely instrumental, tranquility music, sublime.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nY7GnAq6Znw Jon Gomm - Passionflower
A song about a plant growing in the cracks of pavement, 1 guy with an acoustic guitar.

Excellent, thankyou. Listening right now. Excellent guitarwork. Talent! I'll look for more from him.

This is still a little heavy, but this guy makes his guitar cry, and the piano is a great contrast.
Best part of song is after 2:30 if you think it's too heavy/down. He was randy rhodes' replacement after the planecrash and now heads bls. Some crazy guitar.
Zack Wilde- just killing time

Right up there for me: older impactful songs unfortunately diminshed by the radio and mass perception turning them vanilla?

Live- lightning crashes

Any rule against self-promotion in this thread? ;)

It's not all good, but some of it is.
http://www.soundclick.com/amberwolf

I have a lot more that used to be at MP3.com before they went away, but never got it re-uploaded. Some of that is probably better than what's up there, but some of it is presently "locked away" on DAT tapes that I have no player for anymore.

Man, that amaramth song. . . . listen til the chorus anyway.
I didn't listen to yours yet AW. Can you 'sell' it for us, so we aren't too surprised?

Another recommend to an album I just came across recently.
Here's my fav song. It's considered dubstep, but it's not the stuff that lacks melody.

Mt. Eden -bat for lashes

I've recently been listening to a lot of reggae. A lot of Marlon Asher and Damian Marley.

Marlon Asher:

Instrumental of various types.

(You don't want to make me sing. You wouldn't like me when I'm singing.)

Note that most of these would sound a lot better without their recompression.

I suppose the best (depending on your definition, as the styles of these vary, so no particular order) stuff up there might be
#8, Resumption II ver2
#6 Seven Eights of Ice
#11 The Taste of Your Tears
#14 Orchestrations of Love (which is a re-rendering of something I made when I first started doing this in the early 90s?..the original is better but i couldn't find an audio copy)
#15 ethic
#17 Grand Stomps
#18 Millenial Moment
#24 Kosovo
#27 The Truth Is Out There

#22 Nightmare is sort of ok, but it was written before I knew what a REAL nightmare would be...I can't even express THAT musically at all in a way anyone would want to listen to it.

#26 A Year Ago is ok, but could use someone playing a real electric guitar for the lead parts; I probably have better sounds and techniques now since I recorded that in the 90s, but dunno that I'd ever be able to go back and find the files I used to make it with.

I don't really have a category to fit it into...I guess "world" would be where some poeple stick it. Long time ago what I did was so slow and "meditative" and percussionless people called it "new age", thoguh I don't think that fits. None of what I've got up here is like that.

Note that I commonly misuse sounds and effects in my music just like I do objects in my bikes and other projects--totally outside their range and intended use. ;)

Generally what I do is play with sounds and effects on my softsynths in SONAR and/or Forte or Project5, and sometimes in my hardware synths/samplers, until I "hear something" in it, then I record what I'm playing as MIDI tracks so I can edit out my mistakes and/or manually redo some parts or draw them in if I can't quite play it right, etc. Play more parts over that, etc etc. Sometimes I even end up with two separate songs that started from teh same point. Then I mix that all down into audio files for cd or mp3 or whatever.

A couple of amateur productions like Fusion Patrol have used my music in them, and a long time ago one of my songs was used as the background for a PSA on a local radio station. Used to have a cassette of that but I'd guess it's long gone by now.

What I wish I had was a collaborator, to "fix" things I can't see/hear to fix, or whatever. So far haven't found any interested people with the time, or people with the time and interest that actually had the skills (were not even as good as I am at this stuff), or were "musically compatible".

I have hundreds of hours of stuff that needs edtiing enough to be worth listening to by others. Some of it was recorded "live" at scifi conventions' hospitality suites where in the 90's I used to sit in the corner with my equipment and provide background music for those coming in for the food and drink and to sit and talk and rest. Those are the people that encouraged me to make my CD Uncommon Ground, but since almost no one ended up actually *buying* one, I ended up having to go bankrupt (well, trying--it was never completed for some reason I don't understand) and never bothered trying to continue doing music for anyone but me; eventually I just stopped playing out in the world at all. I think I still have a box or two that didn't get taken or lost in teh fire. Not sure. I originally had several boxes that I used to hold things up as they served no other purpose for so long.

But don't let that discourage you from listening...it shouldn't be a complete waste of your time, and probably wont' hurt your ears too badly. :p

Most of the newer stuff there is just "noodling" and isn't even edited, so I can't guarantee no ear pain on these.
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=675355&content=music

The most recent song listed is me poking around on acoustic guitar (I can't actually play one, it's laying in my lap while poke and strum it horribly).

The next most recent was from a few months before the housefire, and it's not terrible but it's not great.

Could be made to be a good song if I ever get my "studio" finished setting back up, but I gotta get a harddisk setup and isntalled with everything on a working computer with enough CPU power and memory to actually run things (whcih is a lot of work that I've already done several times only to find serious problems with the hardware or software compatibility or operation, random BSODs, etc., in the various combinations of used parts I've got to build them from). I've got one machine that works ok-ish, but is too slow with too little ram to do what I need it to do.

The 3rd song in the list is from almsot 7 years ago, and is "quiet" and slow, it's got promise, but needs a properly created / edited percussion track instead of the one it has.

The 4th one is just an idea track, too. Slow, rock type instruments, but isn't rock.

I think everything after that (before that, by time) is actually edited as far as I ever do.

Hmmm Reggae!
What did you listen to before??????
Everything really....reggae is just my latest wave.
Blues, bluegrass, jam bands, metal, rap, reggae, classical, dub step, drum&bass, electronic...I dunno, it's all as good as its intent and no genre really encapsulates my tastes.

no genre really encapsulates my tastes.

I hear that! That's a broader list than mine I think! There used to be a college station around here that played some awesome underground electronic/industrial type stuff, always something new. Miss it.
The best part about music is the first time you hear it,
while your best music only gets better the more aquainted you are with it.

(You don't want to make me sing. You wouldn't like me when I'm singing.)
Hahahahah, singing is fun for everyone! Though listening to it sometimes isn't lol.

Listening to 'new hope' right now, very cool! It sounds orchestrial to me. It definitely takes knowhow and talent to make stuff like this, and you definitely have it!
Nice collection, I'm listening to 7/8s ice right now. I'm hearing some nine inch nails! More of this!

It's a shame most of our lives are driven by making money to get by. In the very least it makes it harder to spend time on the things that matter and give fulfulment.
Thanks for posting this bit man, and I hope you keep it up if you enjoy being the genesis of this music!

Hehe. "disturbed"... "...more truth than..."

Yes Pa. Suspect for most, fantasy sooo much more fun than misery of reality.

(Sorry about this OT bit. Now back to original programming on Alt. Planet ES TV Music.)

Thanks Etrike! I just realized some of the lyrics of one of my new favorite bands- I like when they say what they mean, and mean what they say too. I do seek a balance for this heavy stuff though, wanna be careful not to get too down in the negative that's easy to find on so many levels.

falling in reverse- wait and see

I've got Amberwolf's music on my computer and I have a playlist of 16000 songs that I just put on random. Occasionally, a song comes on that makes me put whatever I'm doing down and go see what it is. 90% of the time, it's Amberwolf! 10%, Incubus. I've been playing guitar for 24 years but have a block in my brain that doesn't let me remember music or movies easily so it's all new, all the time. I'd love to get down to Phoenix and have some time to collaborate.

I love Lacuna Coil. and most of the other music posted here. I was Christina Scabbia's 46th friend on myspace before they were famous and we actually sent a few long messages back and forth. My mom saw her on my friends list and told me that she was out of my league. I met her at a show in Phoenix not too long ago and told the story about my mom. She said, "Tell your mom that she's lucky I have a man, otherwise we'd prove her wrong." I even got a little hug/kiss before she left to go on stage. I've got the stupidest crush on her. lol!

My internet is sucking right now so I'll post a few things to peek at on youtube.
Modern Day Babylon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4z9X0htC3mg -Insane instrumental metal
Wookiefoot -feel good reggae vibe - check out "home free"
Plini -beautiful instrumental guitar
Anup Sastry -more proggy/metal guitar stuff
House of Shem -roots reggae from New Zealand
Tesseract -awesome prog metal with mind blowing singer(s)
Animals as Leaders -more instrumental prog metal
Phaeleh - mellow electronic, super fun to play guitar along with
The Contortionist -more instrumental metal...lol
Opeth -Metal
Faun- Pagan folk
Rising Appalacia -hippie bluegrassy folky hiphoppy kinda vibe
High on Fire!
Mastodon
Puscifer

And here's my unfinished, improv one man band crap: http://www.soundcloud.com/apocaloptimisto/tracks

I wish I could find a drummer to jam with!

Just in case I haven't quite broken the music thread yet...lol

A few of my favs re-lived-

'it's a great big white world, and we are drained of our colors. we used to love ourselves- we used to love one another. "

speed of pain.

"when you want it, it goes away too fast. when you hate it, it always seems to last. . .just remember, when you think you're free, that crack in your heart is me. . ."

Biblical imo, and such highly impactful music.
