Well after 14 years here playing, modding, testing with hub motor ebikes...

...I finally decided to try the mid drive technology :) I pulled the trigger on one Lite Bee X !
I ordered one of these great Sur Ron that i see growing in popularity and part of my decision was seeing Luke having fun with one and the team of Lunacycle too.
I had a chance to try one lite bee X at Ebikezilla in Quebec, YES we have a Sur Ron dealer locally! And oh my god! That thing was amazing! I tried both stock and heavy modified version 72V 300A batt and BAC8000.

I will use it purely off road so i will leave my NYX 32kW for the road and city only. this way i will ahve two bikes optimized for their purpose.

For the same price i had two options:

-buying a brand new Sur Ron and mod it to get it so MAD MAX than i fear twisting the throttle!
-buy a 2020 used ZERO FX ZF 7.2 with 300 miles on it.
I already have two ZERO and i love the product but i preffer these for traveling and drag racing!

The FX is 287 pounds and has 46hp
The Sur Ron X is like 100 pounds and has like 20hp when modified ( 1st stage)

Sur ron is more agile and i can cary it in my chevy Volt or on the hitch very easy. 8)

I still have a ZERO XU that i planned installing FX suspensions on it and a Sevcon size 6 so... it's like i will end out having that "FX" anyway

I will build a bad ass battery using some P42A 21700 cells that i have and one of these great bluetooth high amp BMS and for sure it will have a BAC8000 on it ! I could use one of my SEVCON size 6 that i have but it is very large and pain in teh ass to program properly

It is supposed to arrive on June 15. :D

Excited to see what you do with it Doc.

A feisty Sur Ron is one of the most fun tools you can take off road!

Thanks Luke!

I promissed myself that prior to enjoy that great SUR RON, I will finish the Doctorbass upgrade of the little quad off road atv that i offered to my nephew. He really deserve more than 800W and 36V lead acid!!

So i will bring it to next level!! 4kW brushless and a old ZF2.8 and 1500W recharge! It will wheelie easy!

Btw did you know that i have converted a 2013 ZF2.8 to 14s2p? :D
I have salvaged a old 2013 ZF2.8 with only a capacity loss and some aging but cells remain balanced well. The large mosfet plate was shorted so i recovered the cells. I have measured it on my 1800W electronic load and got 18Ah and still 102v nominal at 0.5C and 166mohm.... so in parallel it should be just fine for 4kW with 42miliohms in 14s2p. I had in stock in my lab some AMP quality large termifoil!!! so i used these to crimp the mid point 14s cells tap and solder big 8 gauge wire to these. it worked like a charm! I then paralleled the balance wires to a JST to a 120A smart BMS.

I think i will also convert my two monolith into 51V for my solar energy storage!

Clever 14s conversion on that pack. Not easy to dig through the potting.

What a lucky kid to have that battery on his quad!

Yeah Potting outch !!!

that kind of material has been made by alien i'm sure!!!

it is:
- a bit sticky
-plastic
-gummy
-hard to take appart
- hard to slice thru -
the most difficult part was to take care of the cell below as i was not sure if the transparent plastic spacer on top had a bottom plane or not ... I think it does and that the cell tab goes thru slit right?

I might borrow the CNC of my friend to cut the accurate dimensions and make all the brick i have the same way with it to cut that ALIEN GEL material! and free the mid point 14s tabs
