Design the best DYI motor controller - Requirements

My 1st post!

I am designing a 36-72V DC, 5KW (continuous) BLDC/PMSM motor controller with hall sensor inputs from scratch. One of the target motors for this controller would be something like this motor. The intended application for this controller are e-scooters, go-karts etc.

I would like your input on requirements for this controller. What are the pain points/issues/difficulties with existing controllers such as Sevcon and Kelly Controllers?

A member here has worked on his own controller design too. I would recommend you study those posts. Even if you make some design choices that are different, those discussions covered just about every important aspect of controller design, and it has input from every member here who has experience with controller design
