Hi gang,

Just got started on my next build: a Ducati 999 Cafe Racer.Here is what I am shooting for:

Motor - Motenergy Me0913 (for now)
Controller - Sevcon Size 4 (for now, looking at Zeva possibly)
Batteries - Home brew with 18650's
Hp - 40 (for now)
Capacity - 10kWh
Range 80 (eventually)

Picked up the frame a few weeks ago. Designing a cable actuated hall effect throttle converter now and then it's on the motor mount and battery box.

Back to work,

Super cool concept, would you mind taking a picture of the rear shock linkage? SamD has some pretty handy operated cable throttle boxes, not sure if hey use a hall sensor. Can be found in the for sale section.
 
That was the "ugly" Duc model, much nicer with it's clothes off! A café version will look very sweet!

Damn! Wasn't aware of SamD's converter. And at $30 you can't go wrong! However, I'm stubborn and still might finish up my own...

Doing some motor mockups right now (former cb750 mount shown). There are some interesting offsets I'll have to navigate. The Ducati motor is a stressed member, so whatever the motor mount looks like I'll have to make sure it's up to the task!

And here is your photo of the linkage Rube. Let me know if that works...

Hi all,

Ugh... Holidays etc. Haven't had much time to work in the garage let alone post. That said, here are some updates:

Doing some battery/motor mount mockups (see photos). I wasn't happy with any of the directions I was mulling over. The stressed member relationship of the battery/motor mount is the main culprit. Plus navigating the swing arm to frame mount offset is a bit gnarly. So, I've decided to go down another, way crazier path (see CAD).

One of the reasons I was drawn to this frame style was the thought of a battery module hanging from the trellis frame where there was a bit of negative space showing between the bottom of the faux-gas tank and top of the battery module. By keeping the motor in the chain line (as seen in the first photos), this doesn't really give me much opportunity to work with this design. So, I've been playing with other ideas.

Simply moving the motor up doesn't work with the offsets and chain line, however mirroring the motor 180 and moving it up does. There is now a jackshaft that comes out closer to the swing arm and will use a series of timing belts to allow for far greater gearing flexibility. And everything is lining up pretty well. Now batteries will inhabit the space where the motor once was and I'll be able to accomplish the hanging trellis design direction! ...in theory anyways.

Next steps are to detail out the CAD and to then do a wood/plastic CNC'd mock up to check my geometry before going back in and stylizing the sucker so that it doesn't look so much like a computer tower!
