I bought an second hand Electric Motion 5.7 from really cheap with an broken "battery module".
The previous owner opened the battery and somehow managed to damage the BMS.
Then he contacted electric motion and got an offer for an new battery for 4000 pound.. The BMS can not be sold desperately.
So, then he sold the whole bike to me for 1000 pounds.

I removed the defective BMS and charged the battery by bypassing the BMS and monitoring each cell with an regular volt meter.
Some cells were a little bit off but not more than 0,1V
I did some manual balancing by charging some of the lower cells and discharging some of the higher cells.
Now they are all within 0,03V.

The rest of the bike works perfect. It comes originally with an Kelly Controller KEB 48601.
I own two other bikes with Kelly controllers so i already have some knowledge to that brand, and cable/software.

The motor is 5KW made by Golden Motor and it has an reduction gear box as this is an trail bike.

Battery is 13S, 25 AH.

Now I need an new BMS and it needs to be built in to the battery. I would like to have Bluetooth.
Any recommendations? I am looking at the Speedict Neptune 15.
But i can not let all the power go thru the BMS as this needs 200A power, acutally the fuse to the controller is 300A.
Can the Speedict instead control the large relay allready build in to the battery module?

Here is also an picture of the bike.
The battery modules is held together with 30+ rivets that has to be drilled out to open the battery.
I installed M4 rivet nuts instead, making it more easy to access the battery later on.

See if you can pull the BMS and get a picture.

Also, see if you can measure the voltages along the connector for the balance wires. You might just have a wire that came loose somewhere.

Does it charge through the BMS OK?

I did open the BMS and several component are burned.
The previous owner messed up somehow and connected reverse polarity or something.

And no, the BMS is completely dead will not allow charge or balance.

The connectors from "buttom and upper link" and the RS232 was not in use.
So its very basic, only cell balancing and 7 temp sensors(!), then relay output for charge and discharge.
Plus current sensor (magnetic field type, not shunt).

New BMS mounted.
I went with the Speedict 15S.

I am also working on building two more batteries.

One will be 37AH using cells from 2018 model E-Golf.
This one will be slightly heavier than the oem one but much better range an also less voltage sag.

The other one i think i will make an light wheight edition. Only 13S6P using LG HG2 18650 cells. This should make it less than 6 kg with relay, casing etc..

Nice job, was thinking of buying a EM 5.7 but they are too expensive so building a trail bike myself.

@offpist1, i'm looking to build a battery for the EM 5.7 sport and have been thinking of a 13S5P of Sanyo NCR2070C 20700 3500mAh 30A Battery. 5 in P would do 150A continuous.

i have been looking for a BMS and also arrived at looking at the speedict neptune but saw it says 60 amps max continuous ... ? how is it working out for you or were you able to modify that max amperage ?

also wondering about how to connect the individual cells together. i've build 18650 packs in the past with a maletriks spot welder but layered nickel strips to get sufficient metal thickness for amperage requirement. for this 201700 battery i was thinking of using 10AWG wire between cells that would not be soldered down but rather i would spot weld the nickel strip arouund the wire to make contact with the top of the battery and it would be tight enough that would actually hold the wire in place. i've done it before for the positive nad negative termials of the battery packs.

also if you could tell me what kind of batteries are used in the original EM battery. They are lipo packs of some format i imagine from the pic. thanks.

and one last question, do you think the Kelly controller would allow 52v (14S) pack, or would not work ? or if you know any other reason not to use a 52V instead of the 48V pack.

sorry for the rant ;)

Hi wondering if you could give an update on the new BMS fitted to your EM 5.7 I've got a EM with a failed BMS so looking for a new one Is the speedict 15 still working fine and is there any tips I need to know when fitting one

Cheers Steve

Agree on the update plus would like to have more details. I have a 2016 EM Sport+ (16ah battery) and want a second battery.
