(PLEASE HELP) Electric Motorcycle, Controller Questions

I am in the process of building an electric motorcycle, however I am having a slight issue regarding the motor controller.
I originally was going to purchase an Alltrax 4834 to go along with my Motenergy ME0708 pmdc motor.

However, I recently scavenged an old Curtis 1204-410 controller from an old golf cart. This controller, although still being a DC controller, was used on a Series or Field motor ... which is where my main question comes in;

will this controller still work with a permanent dc motor such as the ME0708 even though the controller was designed to control a Series wound motor?

The controller manual is ominously silent about this.
No comment if the field wiring part is perhaps optional.

I would perhaps drop Curtis a quick email.

Since a series-wound motor only has two connections to the controller, and so does a PM brushed motor, the connections are the same.

The controller should operate them exactly the same.

If the controller was for a sepex motor, it might not work, as that has separate connnections for the field coil.
