Looks like a new motorcycle just popped up on Ebay at a pretty low price. Seems pretty sketchy so far since they spell Knight two different ways I see Night also in some places. But lots of people are looking for a cheap road legal solution and it looks like it will pass USA DOT

Price: $2999.99 plus $250 shipping
Specs:
brand Fengcheng
72v rear brushless hub motor in a 16 inch alloy wheel
72v 32ah SLA dogs
43 miles range per charge
6-8 hour charge time
75 mile per hour top speed
49.2inch wheel base
330lb max rider weight
1 year warranty

Im sure most of those specs are not realistic especially with a 300lb rider...

the only thing I cannot seem to find is the overall weight of the vehicle which is pretty important to me. I still to this day search for the perfect dual sport motorcycle to convert to electric with a legal MA title for the last 10 years I have not pulled the trigger on a bike to do this to. I almost bought a 250cc magician dual sport since they are the cheapest, but then making it electric will cost a few grand anyways...I typically would not choose a hub motor over a mid drive if I had the option but for street riding maybe the hub wont be so bad...after the SLA die in 6 months you could invest in some lithium

What are your thoughts on this beast?
The key seems to be in a bad spot?

It's cheap and doesn't look bad, but it comes with SLA batteries and a hub drive which makes me think that overall quality will be questionable.
I mean, who is using SLA batteries on an electric bike these days?

I just confirmed with the vendor total vehicle weight is 120kg or 265 pounds which is not too bad considering the SLA must be most of the weight

12v 32ah are $50-75 each being 25lbs each times 6x = 150lbs in battery weight. And the batteries seem to all have a 1 year warranty so that's more than likely where the warranty comes from on the bike.

this bike is pretty light overall then if their figures are accurate

I'm certain they have threaded mounts to screw-in mirrors.

All three pics look like they were taken at the same shipping facility. It's a safe assumption that the vendor got a shipment from the wholesaler and simply needed to rapidly unbox the three colors he had in order to take pics for the sales website.

The fact it uses 72V of lead acid is not necessarily a horrible thing, as long as the money they saved was put somewhere else. The battery pack will get a huge boost in either range or lower weight when you toss the lead-acid, and install lithium.

By that I mean...it's hard to screw up the lead acid, and they can be used for "something", even if it's just selling to another Knight owner. If this vehicle came from China with a lithium pack, I would be suspicious of the quality, performance, and safety. A generic China lithium pack is NOT a Tesla battery pack.

That being said, if the fork/shock/controller/motor were not upgraded with the money they saved by using lead-acid, it's a hard "pass" for me.

Hopefully those are not the actual photos of the items being shipped to the USA.
Without mirrors and DOT turn signals it would not pass.

I can see the directionals and mirror spots, I've purchased a Ebay china gas bike before and had no issued getting it on the road

These guys are just laughing at my credit card waiting for me to order!

now today it looks like they released a 72v 80ah lithium version for $1000 more

At 72V, 5000W / 8000W is 70A and 110A.

As much as $1000 is worth saving, buying the lead acid and making my own lithium battery is not the only consideration. The 8000W is certain to have a much larger controller to handle the extra 40A

Ya but the specs say more top speed and more mileage 72v 80ah is a ton of battery for $1000

but at this price point its about half the cost of a ZERO and you don't know what your getting...I still think I would buy the cheap SLA verison

I agree with Skeetab5780 100%
I'm pretty confident in my DIY Lithium Batteries.

I got myself a cheap electric scooter 3 years ago that I immediately retrofitted with a new Controller and lithium battery.
I put in a 72V 30Ah pack that is still going strong today, not something you can say of most Chinese built lithium packs.

About the Controller, I would swap it with a programmable one.

FWIW, there are not many tire manufacturers making 16" motorcycle tires any more. The rear wheel on that Knight is a 16" size. Now I run the excellent 16" Pirelli Sport Demons on my FJ1100, and there are the Avon radials out there, but there are few beyond those two fine choices. These will not be cheap tires. I dread the day when any maker quits on the 16" rear tires, because so few are left now. 17" motorcycle sizes are very popular, so there will be no problem getting front tires for the Knight.

What an odd key location!

Those fork tubes look super skinny, I wonder about the seat height? Maybe this bike is smaller than it looks? Honda Grom size?

I too have been looking into the dual sport electric conversion. I'm thinking a KTM with blown motor or even a DRZ400 would make a good platform. I think you could recoup about half of the purchase price by selling the ICE parts on ebay. I have a DR250 that would also be a good start for a budget build, it's more of a light duty fire road type bike though.

Who's gonna bite the bullet and take one for the team? Not it

The forks do look a tad skinny but I think this bike is full sized, I do want to try one out but not sure yet, want to ask the vendor a few more questions.

it is only 256lbs total weight even 250cc street bikes are over 400lbs

Yes i thought the same about the fork legs, and then they added those brake caliper adapter for making it suitable for the large brake discs. Same thing on the rear..

When looking closer to the dropouts it seems they just used that small torque plate that comes with the motor, and no clamping mechanism.

Me not :p because i am more the quality guy and proper engineering instead of "bling bling", but maybe you can find some more infos about that bike in electric motorcylce forums.

Huh? Here's a link to BikeBandit's page showing 168 choices in 16" tires.

MJSfoto1956,

It may be better to look closer. Many of the "choices" offered there do not include a 140/70-16 rear tire. IMHO, I would not want to mix a bias ply tire with a radial tire at the other end. Some brands I consider as okay for parade duty only, but for not for serious riding. Some brand names there, I have never even heard of, so you pay yer dime an' take yer chances.

Please feel free to disregard my earlier post.

I think most people should.

Let's see, we have: Avon, Bridgestone, Continental, Dunlop, Kenda, Metzeler, and Pirelli. Hmmm... I don't see Michelin there. Damn. That means that 16" motorcycle tires are DOOMED!

So i may have accidentally bought this bike...offered them $2500 and they accepted it.

Oh boy

I have no idea! We will find out soon its the 72v SLA version I didn't think they would take the offer should have went way lower,
not even sure what color I will get, Listing says red but shows three colors

All I know is that its wheelbase(49.2") is 14cm shorter than a 2009 ninja 250
wheel base of my Vector lite is 48" and the Voloci is also 48"

Only seeing smaller 2000W bikes in their for-sale section right now -- could they have taken them down?

Ya this is pretty sketchy, they also wont answer any questions since payment was submitted. They said they would send information and post more bikes soon but who knows

either way I used Paypal to pay so I know they will send me a bike, just don't know if it'll be worth the $$ or not

Got a couple extremely random pics and videos of similar bikes popping up all over the place and some info on their components

Here is a Vid of the DP-Ninja which came out same day as the SLA version, looks pretty close to the size of a 250 street bike, hard to tell still by the person moving out of the camera how tall it is

Here are a few shots of 16" hub motors I was able to find ranging from a 2000w cheap one to a 5000w rated

I still do not know what motor they are using on any of these bikes or if it really matters...But I will value the motor and rear wheel at $500USD for the sake of argument later

Here is some info on the tire sizes and their effective diameters for calc purposed

You can see the rear diameter on the right hand side, then a larger tire size option to the left if you choose to add more weight and rolling mass for more top speed

also you need to make sure your rim can handle a wider tire
