Re: UK & EUROPE EV PARTS SUPPLIERS
RC controllers? Those must be very new, then. 4QD does make great reliable controllers for brushed DC motors (I use a 2QD on my bike) but they don't have any brushless ones I'm aware of, and most RC stuff I've seen discussed here on ES would require that.

Re: UK & EUROPE EV PARTS SUPPLIERS
Just for info.
4QD, although do get you a good product, are probably THE slowest company I have dealt with.
On all occassions, my orders have taken 2 weeks door to door (and we are both in the UK!)
8 days after my order I have recieved confirmation, stating;
"Thank you for your order, this will be sent from stock. Please allow up to 10 working days for dispatch"
Is this company for real? I have ordered parts from across the world and had them delivered in 3 days (BesTech BMS, Crystalyte etc)
Potentially it could take 21 working days to get this part after I have placed the order.

Re: UK & EUROPE EV PARTS SUPPLIERS
where can one get pouch cells in Europe?
Re: UK & EUROPE EV PARTS SUPPLIERS
I see quite a few members are using Frog battpacks (sometimes two together) as a low cost batt for 250 watt builds etc. The big cost is shipping individual units by air.
An idea from the early days of the net - the group order, well I wondered if it becomes practical to sea ship maybe 10 units. I believe bmsbatteies.com make money out of shipping costs as it seems to double with them compared to Greenbikekit, while the item cost is identical, so probably best not to approach them. I did try to get bms to consider sea shipping but got nowhere. If my Nickel Zinc build works out, that would be another possibility if others were interested. The thing is to standardise on a Chinese supplier even if a mixed load of items from him. Has anyone here done one of these group orders & if so how did it work? I think it should be on a co operative basis then no one here benefits at the expense of another, as the option must remain substantially cheaper than individual orders air shipped. Any ideas?

Re: UK & EUROPE EV PARTS SUPPLIERS
Just search "group buy" here on ES, and you'll find a lot of reasons why many (maybe most) people here would not do it, and would discourage anyone else from doing it. As good as the idea is, it requires that
A) everyone involved be honest and pay up, and the organizer buy and ship everything on schedule and at the prices promised. That's sometimes a lot of people to expect to do right, and a whole lot of work for the organizer and reshipper to do, for which they probably arent' going to get any compensation (if they do, the cost per person goes up, probably way up). It only takes one person in the group to screw up the whole thing for everyone.
B) that nothing changes from the time it's organized and payment collected, to the time things get shipped out. Many things can change or go wrong: Costs of items could go up after money was collected, but not yet paid to vendor, or even after vendor was paid they could change their prices and not honor the original deal. Cost of shipping could go up, or be delayed for months, either by vendor or shipping company, and that could happen either at the original shipping time from vendor, or anytime after organizer gets the stuff and starts to ship it out to individuals. Shipping rules could change, and disallow shipping of the items purchased, or make it exorbitantly expensive.
C) Presently, shipping rules may well already be in place everywhere preventing individuals from shipping these batteries around anyway.
Might just be my perception filters, but more often than not, previous GBs here on ES seem to go very wrong, for any or all of the above reasons.

Re: UK & EUROPE EV PARTS SUPPLIERS
Thanks amberwolf, you have pretty much confirmed my worst fears of what could go wrong, it was just an idea to use sea shipping to get round the 'hazardous goods' air shipping costs of what is in effect a small light part. The idea of doubling up on a 10A/h pack - ie two packs on a bike made the number of potential buyers smaller though, & thus reduced the risk. I was thinking to limit the buyers to the UK in my case so the packs could then be distributed by surface mail / couriers. I did find an alibaba supplier willing to sea ship 10 packs of the frog (this had 10s of 2p 5A Li Co Mn cells, so as simple as possible - unless a 10A/h pouch cell emerges in a form to fit the frog box, & came with a small charger per pack) Price was $150 / unit before sea shipping cost.
I was just trying to get a low cost basic power pack for everyman, (option to double up packs still there). As Henry Ford implied when he said 'choose any coulor as long as it is black' I was looking at standardizing & simplifying so the economies of scale started to kick in. It did occur to me that those who had the option to charge at work if the range dictated it could cheaply buy a second charger from any supplier, thus doubling the pack range. Otherwise carrying two packs with a small motor, it would be possible to switch to the second pack once the first became exhausted. I still think the idea good, but human nature could as you say potentially get in the way
If the NiZn experiment works out, Powergenix have a certificate declaring the battery non hazardous. Weather it would also cover the NiZn made by Hangzhou NeuCell, I do not know, or maybe they would need to apply themselves. Again hoping this helps shipping costs. NiZn has a better calender life than LiCoMn so for the weekend only ebiker it may be more cost effective
