Spot welding pen. Has anyone tried this one?

I am looking for a welding pen that can give nice consistent welds with 0.15 nickel. I saw something like this on the Kweld thread.

I wonder if it gets hot when welding 0.15 nickel at fast rates? The copper looks quite substantial and the tips look like they would be cooled via the retaining block. It is 3D printed, hopefully ABS and not PLA. I would like to combine something like this with a kweld.

I read somewhere that the cable is gold graphene silver red copper alumina. It certainly looks like it's worth the money so I will probably buy one.

are you sure the item pictured in the first post is just the electrode pen, and not teh whole welder unit?

judging by what i can see just in the pic, it has large bolt-on connectiosn for the welding power supply at the "top", and the cable with the little barrel connector is probably for a foot-pedal trigger, or perhaps a serial programming / control interface. then it has the electrode tips at the bottom end.

inside the red coverng is very likely somethign like the kweld unit itself, a complete welder (other than highcurrent power source that bolts to the top connections).

alternately perhaps it is just hte electrodes, and hte high current connection from the welder is the bolt on connections, and the barrel connector is for feedback from the welding tips to the welder so it measures tip temperature or resistance or some other property?

It's too cheap to be the whole welder. I wish someone else could confirm if it's actually any good, I would buy one right away if it was.

How it works explained below. Still looks like a pos.

You deserve it. No really wtf. This is a great demonstration of Poe's law.

AliExpress sellers have a habit of selling magical things that do not actually work. I don't really want to waste 2-3 weeks of my life and at least £20 if there is something better. It could be ABS, fairly pure copper with a functional switch and spring mechanism or it could be PLA, a low content copper alloy with a switch and spring mech that is poorly aligned and therefore does not work properly.

Yes, it is only the electrodes holder. The fat cables for the high welding current are attached to the two screw connectors at the top.

The thin wire is indeed only for a push-button (typically 5V at low amps), and when it is closed, the welding machine (not shown) will deliver the pulse.

I have bought one so I will tell you all if it's red copper gold aluminium graphene nickel plated steel or not.

It seems pretty clear to me that this is just a set of spot welding electrodes. It seems logical that the tiny cable is simply going to the microswitch that triggers when you press the electrodes down, to tell your welder when to fire.
Yes. Very obvious, now that I look at it from a bigger screen and not from my mobile phone :). The round black cable isn't even connected to the thick copper bars. 8) . But I've seen so much marketing sh*t coming from China that I expect everything to be possible in the meantime.

I will tell you what I think of it when it arrives. Some of the Chinese stuff is good but some seem like failed clearance products or other useless inventions. Live and learn right.

That spotwelder handĺe is excellent. Done over 20000 cells with it so far. It will get hot on very heavy use(like two welds per second) but not to hot to have any influence. Just find very flexible 25mm2 cable for it.

Do you know what material they used to print it? Does the heat transfer through the all of the copper? Does it feel sturdy? How long do the tips last? What settings and material are you welding? Mine should be arriving next week.

I saw that as well, but HOW THE HELL will this little wire not melt from all the current sent through it???
I can't imagine this to work.

lol, it's a trigger jack, welding wire connect to the top

My welding pen arrived. It took around 3 business days to arrive from China which I would assume is really fast even for this time of the year. Here is the link to the one that I bought https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000325474661.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.48d54c4dQf76rj

The functionality seems good but I have not tested it yet. I am not sure if the handle is PLA or ABS. The overall quality is medium to poor, the switch does not fit properly and the tip carrier collides with it, they did not machine spring seats into the electrode tip carrier, the alignment between each side is awful, the tip carriers do not fit flush with the rails and the switch wire has absolutely no flex.

For the amount of money that it costs I would definitely say it was worth it and whoever designed this did a good job but whoever built it seriously needs glasses!

So you use that thing with one of these?

They've got some alternatives for the pen, too. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000047404980.html

Do you suppose this could be an alternative to a torch for brazing bronze 9% nickel or silver solder?

Gives me the feeling of a project you buy a lot of parts to configure but never quite get running. But at least you get to burn your hand once or twice figuring it out.

Don't forget one of these. Or maybe something not as cheap. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33034844765.html

No With a KWeld or a JPWeld. I wonder what those boxes contain? reworked microwave oven parts like all of YouTube but with a case?

You can see my reviews this spot welding pen here (similar) https://youtu.be/Uqo8kCGixVo

I thought that's what the KWeld and all were.

Is this welding pen rather like TiG welding?

I bought one of these pens, though not this exact model. The pen is just the welding electrodes with an actuation switch that is activated when the electrodes are pushed down.

My diy welding setup consists of a car battery, a timing relay to regulate the weld timing and a solenoid to close the circuit with the relay.

I was previously using two copper nails as electrodes with varying results as often it was hard to feel how consistent the pressure was on both electrodes.

This type of pen has vastly improved my diy welder setup and let me weld batteries much quicker.

No, if you look at them they are quite different.
