Since we have a V2.0 reports thread and a V3 reports thread, we should have a V2.5 reports thread.

Have any V2.5 users had any issues to date?
Please update us on your V2.5 condition.
 
Not one single ping 2.5 user on the entire forum?
 
I'm about to order a Ping V2.5 24v/25Ah battery. Will this battery discharge 40A from 100% to 20% SOC (state-of-charge) without dropping its voltage below 24 volts?
 
bill, i don't think any lifepo4 cell can do that. seems like they all were below 3V when they reached 80% discharge. go look up drbasses comparisons using his CBA, and i think they all were below 3V by then.

but not by much.

Not true actually.
According to the cell discharge curves the new LiFeTech packs are still no lower than 24V at 80% discharge and this is with a smaller 15Ah pack. This is at a 3C discharge rate (45A) so the expected voltage with the even bigger packs of 20Ah or 30Ah the figures should be even better than for a 15Ah pack.
 
I have a ping 2.5 48v 20ah pack with about 2000km on it. Works fine. Charger fan makes noise now for the first minute of charging, then settles down. Probably order a spare charger.
 
I'm not sure if I have a 2.0 or a 2.5 Ping. Got it last November but took it off the trike in July/Aug when I got the fatpacks. It is just too big! I do miss the power, though! It stays in the house and gets charged 1x per month. Only has about 30 cycles because of my December accident. Seems great but no place tomount it on the new trike.

According to drbass's report in the archive the PSI 10Ah cell at 20A (equiv. to 20Ah double-cell at 40A) was delivering just under 3v at 20% SOC. My own packs made with the older green PSI cells confirm his results. Of course, that is measured at the battery and does not include the effect of the BMS FETs, connectors, and the wire, which for me are about 0.6 - 0.8 volts of additional drop altogether.

I asked because Ping claims that his V2.5 pack at 25Ah will deliver 40A down to 20% SOC, and I wanted some independent verification.

Mine was doing that. Someone here at the forum told me to get to the fan, peel the little round sticker back to expose the axle bushing, put a drop of oil in it, and press the sticker back on.
It worked like a charm...still quiet now months later :wink:
 
Ping has never exaggerated what his batteries could do. To the contrary, he usually recomends a bit larger size that most people actually buy and use. There is a big difference between pings claims and some others from ebay.
 
i just used a ping v2.5 signalab BMS with the leds for the first time. i have a pack which had balancing problems and was ending up short of capacity because the low cells were so far from the high cells that were shutting down the charging FET at HVC and limiting the capacity .

i added the ping v2.5 signalab and watched as the cells finally started lighting up their leds over a reasonably long period of time until they were all lit and i checked, first time to balance under the new BMS and all were within 1%.

i have done 2 discharge/charge cycles since and now all the leds are igniting within a minute it is so closely balanced now. maybe another .1Ah of charge after the first led lights up to when the the last lights up and then it starts regulating the charging FET. i think with another 3-4 cycles it will be totally balanced. all light up essentially together. 43.8V. perfect.

the shunt current is about 68mA, which seems about right if you give the led 4mA and the other 64mA goes through the 5 330 ohm surface mount resistors in parallel. cycling about once/second.

i could not have had a better first impression of mr ping's v2.5 signalab. i could not detect any heat, none at all in the charging FET. but i was only pushing 3A but i don't think it would have gotten hot pushing 10A, just a well made BMS.

i got it because it was so cheap, but after looking at some of the other BMSs, i think this v2.5 signalab is exceptional.

the leds are really useful to help understand how the pack is balancing. the sequence always starts with the same led because i have one cell that gets to the top first, and then bam, 4 more, then another 4-5, then a little longer for the last 2. always the same pattern. this is so useful it would help if people would keep track of it and if it changes during the life of the pack then you know something is changing on that cell. all imho.
 
Would you say the V2.5 BMS is better than the Headway's 48Volt one? That one is rated for 60-80 amps I think.
 
that's not fair, you know how much i like the headway BMS, which is huge compared to the signalab, with its big heat sink plate on top.

i really really like the leds though. when you shut down the charge and leds start flickering on and off, it is like they are singing to you. little light show. little twinkling stars running back and forth until they all drop down below the conduction voltage for the led and it shuts off.

but the headway must cost twice as much. we only were able to get the deal we did because travis was able to strike such a good deal for us with headway.

i can't imagine headway is selling their BMS for less than $90-100. i guess i should check. i'm sure someone will yet.
 
I ordered 3 ping v2.5 packs about 4-5 months ago and requested them to be 12v 15ah. My plan was to use them in series on my ebike, and then also use them in parallel for my 30lb electric trolling motor. As always, things come up in life and I didn't get around to using them immediately. I checked them all for voltage when I got them, but then they sat for about 2 months before I used any of them. When i did, I only used 2 of them no my 24v 350w cyclone motor. So far, I've only ridded less than 5 miles on maybe 7 different trips. I recharged them after each trip and they are working fantastic.

The 3rd battery I just pulled out of the closet yesterday. I stripped the ends of the charging wire and hooked them up to my charger. I had purchased 12v chargers from ping. Label reads "input: 1.5A, output: 15.4v=5A" It only took about an hour of charging before the leds came on, but I'm concerned that this battery pack has a problem. Only 2 of the leds came on solid, no other leds on this pack are lighting up. The 2 packs I've been using have 4 leds that go solid when its about done charging.

Has anyone run into this issue before? I used my DM to check the voltage on this pack with the 2 leds and its in line with my other packs. Do I have a problem with the BMS?
 
why didn't you just convert the trolling motor to 36V. that woulda been easier. hehe, no really.

the leds should turn on, but you may need to cycle it a few times through some discharge/charge cycles. so mount up your trolling motor on the kitchen table and run it for awhile, then recharge/discharge/recharge but it doesn't take much discharge each time just 5-10%.

then see if another or all of the leds turn on.
 
dnmun, looks like you were right. It just needed to be cycled a few times and now all 4 leds are on. I still haven't actually used this 3rd batt yet, but its looking normal now. I actually just unplugged my charger from the wall, but left it attached to the batt and that seemed to help it out. The batt would power the green led on the charger and then eventually the red leds on the batt would go out. I plugged the charger back in each time this happened and let it sit overnight before doing this again. After I did this for the 3rd time, the 3rd led lit up, then the 4th led came on shofrtly afterwards. Thanks!

So...I mentioned in a post earlier that my fan on my charger for my Ping V2.5 was making noise...i didn't get a chance to read the helpful advice to put oil on in this topic and well...it died.

I wrote to ping and he sent me a new one for free...well 20 bucks for shipping as i went ahead and ordered a extra charger and bms along with the replacement charger (just in case). Took a week and a half to get here to Toronto.

Rode to work this am, was about 6 degrees C. Felt great not to be among the sweating bus mass...maybe i'll write a BusMass Carol...hmmmm

I'm a happy Ping customer.

Haw. I'll keep an eye out for your ride when I'm on my 9 c kit with my ecitypower LiFePO4 pack. We can sing your carol together as we pass the losers on the TTC.
