Adding an on/off switch to the Cycle Analyst?

I have the stand-alone CA and the application doesn't have a practical way to install a battery switch between the battery pack and the CA. Are there any special considerations to adding a small switch to the CA's case for the V+ lead so I can power the CA on and off? I assume V+ is the correct lead.

While I don't understand your application, it is a reaaaaaalllly good idea to have a power switch and fuse/breaker between your battery and the load... The CA also uses very little current.

That said, no reason you can't cut the line to put a switch on V+. Check ebikes.ca CA FAQ where Justin discusses splicing etc:

Better yet, email the wizard (Justin) directly and ask tell him what you want to do. As the creator, he should have a better idea of the impact than most of us here.

The application is for a GoPed ESR750. The controller powers up with a handlebar mounted switch. No manual battery switch, breaker, or fuse in between.

I really didn't want to bother Justin directly with the question since I figured it was pretty simple. I guess I was just looking for affirmation and making sure I wasn't going to cause an unforeseen issue. I've gone through all the online documentation for the DB/CA repeatedly but I suppose I could have missed something.

No, the power switch is wired directly to the controller. I'll probably be installing the power switch to the CA this evening, no big deal. I installed Deans connectors to the CA last night but still need to install them in-line with the battery pack leads.

I'm curious to get some baseline figures for the ESR750. I'll be playing around with some different gearing down the road.

Cut it? Why would I want to do that? It just carries a low voltage signal to power the motor controller on and off.

BTW that GoPed marketing pic doesn't exactly scream safe and responsible riding does it? lol

v_tach,
If you show us a wire diagram of how your scooter is wired, some of the electrical wizards here would have a better understanding of where to put Cycle Analyst? Contact the manufacturer and ask them for a schematic diagram. If they don't have one? Take scooter all apart and draw your own.

Lots of switches for sale at these places.

Not so many switches here http://www.radioshack.com

Think this topic belongs in the Electric Scooters and Motorcycles section? Do like the hair on girl shown picture above

Marty I guess I didnt word my posts very well, my apologies. I finished up last evening and everything works fine.

My only concern about the installation was if putting a switch inline with V+ of the CA would cause any problems I didnt consider. This topic area seemed apropriate since the CA can be used for battery managnement and monitoring. My inquiry had nothing to do with the machine it was being installed on other than why I needed an on/off switch for the CA.

Thanks again for your efforts.

Looks more like a meth addict. Hooker, meth addict... humm, I guess could be the same in many places.
