I have search for a crimper for 30A and 45A Power Poles.
I know about the tri-crimp, but with shipping an VAT I find it a bit expensive.
Recently a lot of crimpers turned up on ebay.

I am looking for input on their usability for Power Poles.
I like quality tools, but in reality I probably just need it for 20-50 good quality crimps.

I use one from HarborFreight that cost 13 USD. Works fine but you need to practice and keep up crimping skill. I occasionally waste one Anderson to restore my skills if I haven't done it in a while. I only use Andersons.

I am using Powerpole Crimping Tool. Exclusively designed to provide a positive crimp on the Anderson Power 15, 30 & 45 amp contacts. Crimp 15, 30 and 45 amp contacts in one tool.

ditto on the tri-crimp tool..It's great....I prefer it over the Harbor freight one, which I also have and use occasionally.

Another +1 for the Tri-Crimp. Makes APPs dead simple to make. I highly recommend it.

I use a tool very similar to the following tool for my 45amp and 30amp connectors

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Crimping-Tool-Wire-Stripper-Cutter-With-Accessories.....

It works great, perhaps 1 crimp in every 5 to 10 fails the pull-as-hard-as-you-can test

With a 30amp powerpole you need to do is line the seam in the powepole up with one of the 'humps' numbered 0.75 - 6 (the round powerpole should sit neatly into one of the graduated numbered holes) in the photo and squeeze as hard as you can. That leaves the powepole a little spread open, so I turn it sideways and close it up using the flat area at the top of the tool.

With a 45amp powerpole - I put the trough of the powerpole against one of humps numbered 0.75 - 6 and gently squeeze the flat sides against the concave curved side of the crimp tool, which rounds the flat sides into a nice barrel shape.

Not that one.

but you can make really good crimps without a tricrimp. Here's what I use, the key thing being the bump on the jaw, and long handles to get a really tight crimp. Practice with cheaper contacts first, then start doing andersons.

Thanks dogman. That was really informative and similar to what I do with the crimper I use from HF.

what do you guys think of this tyope:

I hated to spend all that money but I pulled the trigger on tri-crimps. For the 75 amp andersons I had to get a Hydraulic wire crimping tool from harbor freight. I use andersons on all low amp applications and bullets for high amp loads.

I use the hydraulic crimper from Harbor Freight for ALL of my crimps now.
