Is there a quick load test to evaluate a Li Ion 18650?

Post by Boyntonstu » Dec 02 2015 10:04am

I have a car battery load tester. It shows the open circuit volts and when I flip the switch it draws a lot of current.

If the voltage remains in the green, the battery is OK.

Next, iffy yellow, and finally bad red.

Assume an 18650 cell at 4.2 volts. I can measure its internal resistance, but it takes time.

Is there a draw tester similar to the car meter?

I think that if it could draw 10A for 10 seconds and maintain a minimum acceptable voltage, the cell should be OK.

I have approximately 100 cells to test.

The opus BT-C3100 charger/analyzer do a quick IR test in a pair of seconds based on a load and the voltage drop. It is acceptable precise to have an idea of the cell status

If it really does a 10 amp load, then you can look at voltage drop under load and make comparisons.
