Has anyone built a pack with this type of nickel tape in an 18650 pack? I'm looking to run a split pack of two blocks of 10S8P in series for a total of 84V, 45A nominal. The dimensions for the nickel tape .15mm x 7mm width. Actually it's worse, it slims down to 6mm in width for the series connections. I am concerned about not having enough area for power delivery and have been considering soldering 4 small lengths of wire to connect each parallel group spaced between the joint. I'd rather avoid the soldering though so I'm having second thoughts. Just looking for some advice before I take the plunge one way or another and begin the welding process.

Here's what I end up with if I do the math:

According to google, the ampacity of a copper 1in2 bus-bar is 1000A. Converting 1in2 to mm2 is 645.16mm2.

If I take .15mm x 6mm, that is only 0.9mm2. Solving for the ampacity as a proportion leaves 900A/645.16mm2 = 1.39 A per connection.

Worse, since it is pure nickel it's actually 1/4 of this value due to the difference in resistance at .35 A ampacity for each interconnection. That seems like it will suck for my application considering I need 45A/8 = 5.6 A ampacity for each connection.

Am I missing something here, or is this really unsuitable for the battery build without soldering?

I haven't tried that type myself. But depending on your layout that is a good fit for strait nickel sheets cut to size

Ah thanks, somehow I missed that chart. Looks like I would barely be in the acceptable range of 6.0 A with a 5.6 A requirement, which doesn't account for phase amps I think, definitely not ideal.

I used this type of nickel for my battery build. Be aware that some is sized for the snap together battery holders, and some is designed for the cnc milled battery holders.

Cool, I think what I'll do is use this belt tape and then double up on the series connections with some .15mm x 8mm wide single tape.

Thanks flangefrog, that's a nice battery build you have, I'm using those black plastic battery holder's too. I'm considering using those electric insulator rings for the positive terminals for extra insurance, but it seems a little unnecessary. Anyone want to weigh in on the insulators? I've ordered some already, but I'd rather not wait the 3 wks or so it'll take to get them to start the build.
