BMS charge while in use

I previously ran a motorcycle battery made of lifepo4 a123 cells that worked well but as a project was not fitted with a BMS. I'm revisiting the idea, but this time with a BMS installed.

With these BMSs they usually have one negative wire for charging and one for load. If you were to run this battery with 14ish volts coming in from the charging circuit, at the same time as the load is being drawn, would this still function to protect the cells? Would there be voltage drop/interruption to the load as the BMS tried to balance the cells?

I considered fitting appropriately rated diodes to the BMS input/output prevent current flow in the opposition the design, but I think there might be unwanted voltage drop, preventing it from charging enough.

Anyone tried this before? Or perhaps has taken apart a commercial lifepo4 battery and knows how they deal with it?
