black cord to black hole
red cord to V (for volts)
dial to DC volts
it doesn't need zero calibration

And if you want to rock out, you switch the multimeter to the AC/DC position!
eBike: Q100H on 16S with Phaserunner FOC Controller
eMotorscooter: Vectrix VX-1 Died... Electrified Ninja in Progress!
eCar: Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV... Warramty expired. Still not game!
eHouse: 6.2kw On-grid solar with battery backup coming soon!

After 5 builds, the best advice I can give, is start with high quality products. I prefer http://www.ebikes.ca

Please go on the youtubes and watch some videos on beginner level electronics and multimeter use. Dont ask on a forum to expect people to type out a beginners guide to electronics for you. Put some effort in yourself first.

Do you have the probes plugged in to the red and black holes on the right of the meter?

Yes there are a lot of types and variations of the multimeter with many buttons that people after 20 years don't know what the button does. Good luck
