heading for Texas?

I'd bet a dollar that Tesla was planning on increasing their activity in Nevada/Texas, and decreasing their activity in California as part of a long-term strategy. The current conflict is just an "opportunity", and may result in Nevada/Texas "sweetening the deal" for future activity. Possibly just fake outrage, likely to continue as needed as long as it continues to get the desired results...

Before the battery gigafactory had it's final location solidified, Tesla was pitting the various bidders against each other in a contest to see who would give them the best deal.

The Tesla gigafactory in Germany had it's location negotiated, and they did not start the negotiations by saying "Prum in Germany is the only possible best location, nothing else will do. So, what kind of a deal can we get?

If business is substantially cheaper to conduct in Texas than California, then go nuts.

To whine about it in the middle of a pandemic though, that is just petulant.

Tesla has a board of directors who, at the end of the day, are accountable to shareholders. Elon can say whatever he wants, but he only has so long a leash to work with.

Yeah, Cali would care only because of public perception- and in an age of constant activity and talking heads it doesn't matter too much. Hell, it'd probably just not be worth it monetarily for Tesla- whatever you'd save in tax revenue could be overdone next cycle and you have to sell your materials and pay movers anyway.

It's all whining, in my opinion.

Not much. CA is a big state and other than payroll, I can't see having part of his headquarters here adds much to CA's tax base.
Yep. Tesla was getting $100 million in tax breaks as of 2016. Gotta be way higher now.

Musk is just making noise to keep Tesla in the headlines...always good for business.!
Relocating Tesla Headquarters will not fix the production restart issue at Freemont.
He is hoping enough public noise will jerk the chain in Alameda Co and enable a resheduling of start up for Tesla.

My hope is that consumer demand for their current production fails to materialize. $1.XX/gal gasoline and widespread economic uncertainty surely won’t help.

Why would you hope for that?

Sure he's an entitled jerk, but I think Tesla succeeding would be a good thing for humanity

I doubt he'll keep much production here too long.

I already want the China made ones powered by CATL LFP.

His HQ will be on Mars

Electric private transportation is a certainty. Buying it from Tony Stark doesn't have to be.

He is getting his way because ... He is a very large Employer here in the Area, If and When he decides to move the Tesla Car Manafacturing Plant out of the Area, the S.F. bay area is one step closer to becoming a 3rd world state .

The Alameda County Officials are very worried about him moving the Manafacturing Plant, so is Governor Newsom .
That is why he has not only not been arrested . or even fined $$$ , if there ever is a fine it will be small.

If he pulls out of California many other jobs will move as well, the County Officials are very worried .

If just a few of the Big Employers leave California, like many small and medium size Employers and Businesses have left the Socialist State of California , well things are going to get interesting , time to look at Venezuela,

California is becomming more like Venezula each month/year .

It seems his tactic is working and he is getting his way....
...with support from Trump !
Elon Musk hasn't been arrested, as production continues at Tesla without California county's permission....
Fox News

Elon Musk put the Battery Production Plant in ... Nevada .

California ( the Public Policy Makers/politicians ) have made doing business in California a loosing proposition .

He could have put the Battery Production Plant in California, there still is plenty of land here to do so, it is the Policies of
being a Blue State that is driving him out , like many businesses before him .

Come back with that nonsense when California’s economy isn’t subsidizing all the Republican parasite states.

A huge amount,

Each of the Employee's are paid good, so pay a good amount of state and federal taxes there are a few thousand working there .

Then

Add to the Fact that when ever a Manafacturing Job leaves any area of the U.S. many other secondary jobs are lost in that area.

There are many area's of the U.S. where when a business left to China / Mexico , the whole town slowly went down into severe poverty .
The entire S.F. South Bay will suffer big time if , or , when he moves his business to a Red State.

Life is getting , Interesting .

how much in tax dollars would California lose if Tesla moves its headquarters?

Not nonsense, just look at the history of businesses and people leaving the state of California over the last few years now.
It is Real,

California and many of the Big Cities are the Real Parasite's , there are many investigative reports on this , I have even seen segments , on PBS on this Fact , When even PBS talkes about the
Big Cities being parasites , you know most people already know this .

It is the Blue States and Big Cities that are the Parasite's .

The Right is exposing this fact , and now that more people know this , the Left are starting to admit it .
