HI!

So... I'm building my first Ebike conversion of a Boardman Team hybrid bike

https://www.bikeradar.com/news/boardman-hybrid-team-just-in/

Ive managed to overcome most mechanical issues in fitting the 36v 350w motor YAY except one...

I was wondering if anyone has come across this before...There is nothing to set the locking ring off the frame as in a convention hub see below.

My only idea is to use stacked washers on the axle flange smaller than the inside diameter of the locking ring that prevent it sitting against the frame.

Thanks

Washers might work, but it may create another problem with fitting the motor into the frame. Did you check clearance already?

For the washers, I'd use one of the ebike specific "spacer" washers for the first one, so you have full support against the shoulder of the axle. Less important for the rest of the stack of washers.

Looking at the product pictures here:

I don't know if that is your motor, but it looks very similar.

It appears that there is a third bolt supplied that is supposed to act as the spacer.

So going from left to right (disc side to gear side) It looks like the 'hub sandwich' would be:

axle nut -- washer --- left drop out -- anti-rotation washer -- hub motor -- spacer nut -- anti-rotation washer -- right drop out -- washer -- axle nut

If you have a torque arm then replace one of the outside washers with that.

Thanks all...

I just needed some reassurance, looking forward to getting this finished now.
