PAS sensor connection

Hi guys,

I was thinking about purchasing this kit:

It's a 9C with an infineon controller. I already run an infineon controller on my push trailer since 2009, so I am familiar with the basic setup. What I don not know exactly is how the PAS sensor works. I assume it has a hall sensor, that provides some signals as soon as one moves the pedals.
My intention is to make the sensor switchable, so that I am able to drive also without pedaling. So I either need to disable the function on the controller that requires the PAS signal to activate, or I need to duplicate the PAS signal with a little electronic pulse generator, and fool the controller into thinking that I pedal all the time. To do the latter, I need to know about the kind of signal required. Perhaps a 555 timer could do it?

Can anyone help me in this reagard?

PAS on the Fusin kit I am reviewing here:

simply has a bracket with a hall sensor that is secured to your BB by the BB retaining ring or locknut. It can be put on either side; I chose the easier left side (no chainrings to get in the way). The magnet ring just slides onto the crankshaft.

But you have to take the crank off to install it. Most PAS appear to be made taht way (Justin has a thread around here for working out a different way to make them that wouldn't require that).

When pedalling, it causes the controller to run the motor, even if you don't have any throttle input (or don't ahve one attached). So if you put a signal from a 555/etc into that signal wire, it is going to automatically give you whatever level of power the PAS system is programmed to give, even if you ahve throttle at zero. I don't kow if all controllers do that, but this one does, and I thik generic "infineon" ones do that too.


Anyway, if I don't pedal, and jus tuse throttle, it still works. Also works without the PAS connected, so you could easily put a switch on the PAS signal wire to disconnect that wire from the controller, and have throttle still work, at least on the Fusin controller. Most "generic" controllers are probably like that.

It works exactly as you described. Both PAS and twist throttle work independently.

The problem is only, that the speed limits that can be activated by connecting some cables, only apply to the twist throttle. As soon as I spin the magnet ring of the PAS sensor, the controller applies full throttle to the motor.

What I wanted to achieve was, that I can with the flip of a switch both activate a legal speed limit and the PAS sensor, so that the bike can only go 25Km/h and only when the pedals move.

So I guess I will use the pulsing voltage from the PAS sensor to trigger a monoflop switch, which will close a reed relais, that will allow the throttle to work.
At the same time, the legal switch will activate the speed limit.
With the legal switch open, the reed relais will be bridged, and the speed limit deactivated.

The PAS is a hall sensor that makes a pulse each time a magnet passes. Some controllers give variable power depending on pedal speed. Some give full power and some have a panel to select the amount of power.

Theres three wires to the PAS sensor: red, black and signal which can be any colour. Put a switch on either the red or signal wire to activate/ deactivate it.
