I think it was possibly developed by Nine Continent and was offered by some major retailers, like Grin, Electric bike and Whoosh, in both motor and completed Ebike form during a brief period between 2009 and 2012.
It is a small, 3.5 Kg. direct drive motor in the 300 to 500 Watt range, available in 4 winds.
It seems to have fallen out of favor, as it has been dropped by the above three retailers, but is still on the Nine Continents site.

I don't see it many other places, just a few vague Alibaba want-a-be sites.

What is he doing? Trying different phase/hall combos w/a switching box?

They still make it.

I bought one as a sample from 9C last month.

My intent is to set it up as a front hub on a Mid Drive bike, with the idea that I'll use it as a 2WD set-up with the benefit of having regen braking. And the smaller lighter size will keep the overall weight down.

Weight on the bare front hub motor is 4.77 Kg.

The one I ordered was 9.3 Kv with a phase resistance of about 0.440 Ohms. I'd guess ~500W (~10A) will be it's realistic power limit.

What are your experiences with the small 9-C motor? Would you recommend it? So the motor is not actually 3.8kg but in fact closer to 4.8kg? That's a big difference!

I'm trying to weigh up that and the Crystalyte G series as a lightweight hub motor asist for my cargo bike.

I appreciate any feedback on that, and if you by any chance have any experience with the Clyte, it would be amazing to hear about that :)
