Pedego Comfort Cruiser with PAS/Torque sensor mod....

My wife has a Pedego Comfort Cruiser with a half twist throttle. Holding the throttle isn't ideal and I am exploring the option of setting up a PAS or torque sensing bottom bracket for her bike if they are options. Has anyone tried to do this before? The bike doesn't have a sophisticated computer like the Cycle Analyst onboard so I am not sure what I can do with it to add that functionality. There may be some creative option to splice into the throttle with a PAS or torque sensor to get the desired effect of pedal activated motor assistance.

If anyone has some info on if this is possible I would appreciate it :)

You can add the Cycle Analyst v3 and PAS magnet ring or a BB torque sensor or the BEAM TS (Grin Tech has everything you'd need), to get PAS of various kinds.

The PAS ring version is the simplest, and cheapest.

You can look up PAS setups here on ES in the Cycle Analyst v3 thread in the Ebike Reviews and Testing section, to see what others did and problems encountered/fixes, and/or read thru the CAv3 setup guide on the same thread or Grin Tech's site http://ebikes.ca

Alternately you can replace the controller itself with a PAS capable unit. (this is probably cheaper)

about making a PAS to throttle converter with arduino.

I built up my ebike with a CAv3 and PAS that I got from ebikes.ca which I really like and I am looking to do something similar on my wife's bike, hopefully without having to replace all her components. I know she won't want the big CAv3 on her bike just to get the PAS. I was hoping there was some way of interfacing with the existing throttle somehow to make a PAS or torque sensor work. I haven't looked over her bike that thoroughly but from what I recall the controller must be contained in the battery connection housing since it isn't visible on the bike anywhere. So replacing the controller with a different one may be a bigger project than I am prepared for.

The audrino option could work but I haven't worked with the audrino stuff before so that may be a bigger undertaking than I am prepared for as well. I will check in to it though and see if it could be a fun project anyways :)

If you don't want the CA on the handlebars, you can put it in a bag or box somewhere out of sight (under the rear rack, for instance), and with the new 3.1 firmware it can be used with a "digiaux" button set on the bars to select between PAS levels (see the latest section of that CA v3 test thread for info on that).

Also, if the display part of the CA is not needed, it can be removed (I'd add a SIP connector in place of the soldered-on display connector, so it can be plugged in if you do need it at some point). The actual CA board itself is quite small.
