this is long and i know very little and need help

so i had an old electric bike that i rode for a year, a crystalyte front hub deal with a 36v ni-mh battery . anyway the front hub partially seized (sounds crunchty like broke magnets) and i thought i rather than trying to fix, id just get a new wheel/controller and use my battery.

so i bought this conversion kit from a shipping company (long story), damaged box so the price was ok i thought ($100). included the 26" wheel and hub, controller, throttle, brakes but no battery which is fine as i have one.

all good so far. it arrives, all there as far as i can tell but 2 issues. no paperwork or instructions at all and no labels on anything (except the wheel hub BBS) to indicate what it even is so i cant even look up what to do. so im blind on this

now im a bit mechanical and researched some but i cant find much.
so i hook up the plugs about the only way theyll go, but no luck

+- from the battery seem straight forward
plugs to the hub seem pretty straight forward
throttle plugs in to the 3 wire plug (power, signal ground?) but which other 2? one will be voltage for the meter im guessing , the red female from the controller show same voltage as the battery (40) when hooked up. no other wire show any voltage
i read and it seems like there should be 5v from the red throttle wire but i cant get anything there

open the pouch, theres a ton more plugs tucked in there, likely for brakes, monitors, pa, etc ? likely a generic controller that is used on several things?

cant figure out the pic thing, hopefully these will open

anyway i need guidance. (there was a decent spark when i first hooked up power but cant recreate that either, hope i didnt fry something.)

Hi and welcome to the ES.

it seems your pics are all private, unfortunately.
I recommend using imgur btw.

I'm guessing you have a single red thin wire with a ring terminal or something similar on it right? Connect that wire to the B+ to turn on the Controller. You can use an electronic key switch in between that thin red wire to quickly turn it off and on.

Good luck

thanks, hope these work better

the red insulated wire to the far right in pic 4 has power (40v) nothing else. id hook that to the B+ but dont know what that is

so any idea what i have so i can find a proper wiring schematic and figure out how to get this thing going?

thanks

I might be able to add a little. The 2 extra wires coming from the throttle likely lead to that key switch and are used to turn the system on and off.

If this is part of a "kit", it would follow that 2 of the wires coming from the controller will either need to be hooked together, or led to that switch, with the switch turned to it's "on" position to allow power to the system.

Additionally, you likely have 3 wires (hot, ground and sensor) that lead to a PAS sensor, and 2 or 3 more (you just need 2) that lead to your brakes. Those short together to shut the motor down, and possibly turn on the regen if the controller is set up for that.

There's what appears to be a 3 wire plug in the bottom picture, with yellow, brown, and black wires. Those are frequently used for the lead to a PAS sensor. Brakes often use black and yellow, but your bottom picture makes that lead near impossible to see. A better pic of that, with the controller leads fanned out, might lead to more info.

Best of luck!

i hooked these wires up like this as they seemed to match , (wheel wires are pretty straight forward),
controller, male female/male female , only 1 wire left over, nothing blew up but nothing happened

from AHicks, thank you "If this is part of a "kit", it would follow that 2 of the wires coming from the controller will either need to be hooked together, or led to that switch, with the switch turned to it's "on" position to allow power to the system."
then i hooked up this little red guy

and the wheel spun!!! but as this video shows, not exactly as it should

so i know the wheel works!!!.
i know the controller can put power to it!!!
and its not right,
i can unplug the 3wire plug to the throttle and it still runs (backward only)
so progress.

The wheel is changing directions because Auto learn is on. The Auto learn wires are usually 2 black and white wires connected to each other.

ok ive tested and fooled around long enough, i cant get it hooked up right
throttle test shows its working properly (signal wire 1v at rest, 4.5 at full)
no wire going to the wheel changes voltage no matter what the throttle does

anyway im going to bite the bullet and get a controller with labelled wiring so i know what does what

this wheel is a bbs/bafang , 500w from what i can gleen from the net. battery is 36v
brushless with 3 phase wires and 5 hall wires (+-hall1,2,3) pretty straight forward there i think

what controller can i buy that should run this wheel? i searched amazon/ebay but im more confused now
thanks
