I have a Hakko Presto which I use to solder up to 8AWG and that little thing does it amazing.
I would like to hear about any recommendations for quality yet affordable soldering irons/stations for a higher power setup to solder 5AWG wires.
Mind that the Hakko Presto is the best soldering iron I ever used and it's super cheap ($30-$50).

Best soldering iron for wiring that size is no soldering iron, it's just not the right technique for connections at that scale.

Best option is to invest in a hydraulic crimper - they can be had pretty cheaply from ebay etc. I love mine.

Get The TS100 Digital OLED Programmable Soldering Iron is an internal heating intelligent CNC soldering iron.

Check out the reviews. A real winner!

Big fat tip iron will do, even low wattage, if the tip is fat enough. But personally, I'd go to crimps or lugs by 5g.

I solder 4 AWG with a weller WS81, using fat tip.
A TS100 with a fat tip will work too.

That 80w Iron is enough to solder long pieces of AWG4 onto my BMS PCB even.
