Any reason besides cost to be looking at Ansbern vs. FREY? So many pitfalls ordering direct from China and ways to get taken, FREY may not be the cheapest but you know what you are getting. I did a search for Ansbern on ES and one person here bought one of their bikes. Seemed they had some issues, not sure if they got them worked out.

I can’t comment regarding Frey bikes, because I’ve never worked with them. I can attest that cheap Chinese imitations of more respected bikes tend to get all the important details wrong. There will be screwed-up elements that you can’t fix. And there will be other things that you can fix, but which will eat up all the savings you thought you had realized.

I can't afford the Frey1000 with shipping and GST
the Ansbern is $2,000 cheaper with very similar components,
No one had heard about Frey until people started buying...
They have been around longer than Frey bike
Just wanted to see if anyone had given it a go?

Ansbern is in Suzhou, where we have our office and where Bafang is located too.
In due course, I will try to visit when normal work commuting can start again.

I am sorry but there is a big difference in the components Ansbern uses compared to Frey.
At around US$ 2000 ex China the Ansbern is about 1200 $ cheaper than the Magura high end spec Frey.
Shipment will be the same.

As a sidenote, Frey offers a medium spec AM1000 too, they use Tektro HD E725 4-piston brakes instead of Magura and the suspension and drive train components are also mid level. Price difference is almost 750$ cheaper, I believe US$ 2380 ex China. At that pricepoint I would consider the Frey over the Ansbern....
My HT1000 has this spec and I am happy with it.

Which components do you get for the base price of 2k USD? It seems they listed a few parts as Upgradements, which makes it difficult to compare. Let us know what they quote you for a bike and its specs.

Cheers

Thanks brake034
I don't know Frey had a duel suspension bike with tectro brakes ect ect, I only ride lite single track no hard core stuff, just go out to get fresh air see the scenery and exercise
The Ansbern is $2,000 Australian cheaper.
It doesn't cost $2,000
I'd be interested in your assessment of the Ansbern thanks,
If you get a chance to swing by.
My wife is from Shanghai I was planning on visiting Ansbern factory when we are permitted to visit China again and the Aussie government let's back into Australia...
Cheers Mate

Ansbern has two models they offer in FS:

1) https://ansbernbikes.en.alibaba.com/pro ... 6311nvkL6R which is US$ 2080 and comes with DNM fork (and shock?) and Tektro HD-E350 brakes.

2) https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/ ... creen=true comes at US$ 2311 no details on the fork and shock, I guess DNM still standard? And the same Tektro HD-E350 brakes.
Edit 1: confirmed by Ansbern, a DNM is standard, Rockshox is upgrade.

Than at US$ 2380 the medium (Frey calls it basic) spec Frey AM1000:
Front fork: ROCKSHOX RECON RC 150MM Air suspension fork.
Rear shock: ROCKSHOX MONARCH RL 200*57mm air suspension
Brakes: TEKTRO HD E725 4-piston

If you look at the Ansbern scope of supply, these two FS bikes are the top of their range, they also do a lot cheaper commodity ebikes and even conventional bikes. Furthermore I know that Suzhou is an expensive place to be in China, staff costs is high and so is the location. I think therefor that Ansbern is mainly a trader, not a manufacturer..........

Edit 2: Ansbern quoted me the upgrades for 2): "Rockshox fork: 82.5USD, Rockshox rear shock: 198USD, Maxxis tyre: 36USD, Tektro HD-E725: 45USD, the total is 361.5USD" so the second Ansbern is US$ 2311 + 361 = US$ 2672 to reach the specifications of the basic Frey priced at US$ 2380.......

If you upgrade to yari fork, super deluxe rear shock, sram nx, dnm dropper post,
Maxxis tires, 17/21 battery
I think this could be a good single track light riding bike, good enough components for good price compromise,
They say they are a manufacturer not just a assemble company.
I can't afford a Frey bike,
I didn't ride hard stuff just fun stuff.
Any thoughts

As per members previous post, how much for the bike with your spec requirements? Can't afford a Frey yet no price comparison with the Ansbern (and you can afford a trip to China). Brake034 has already done the price comparison and the Frey is cheaper.

You mention Ansbern has been around longer than Frey - where did you find that info?

You asked if anyone had given Ansbern a go: As Tom pointed out, a member had issues with their bike and had to post in a competitor supplier [Frey's] thread to get some answers: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=91035&p=1456089&hi ... n#p1456089

It's not like this thread has many posts, so not sure why the same questions which have already been answered.

As I posted, with the upgrades the Frey AM1000 is cheaper than the Ansbern!

Ansbern quoted me the upgrades for 2): "Rockshox fork: 82.5USD, Rockshox rear shock: 198USD, Maxxis tyre: 36USD, Tektro HD-E725: 45USD, the total is 361.5USD" so the second Ansbern is US$ 2311 + 361 = US$ 2672 to reach the specifications of the basic Frey priced at US$ 2380.......

Good or Bad

My wife Can afford for us to visit family in China

The am 1000 is approximately $1,600A
More expensive then the Ansbern, if you up speck to as discussed options that's approximately
$600 more leaving a $1,000 difference
I haven't seen anyway that Frey will down speck the am 1000
Even if they did, I can't see it being a $1,000
Cheaper,
Only way to find out is to put in a request to see exactly what each company is willing to offer,
The exchange rate is heading in Australia's favor at the moment, I'll hold until I see where it ends up.
I'm not the type to order change my mind and faf around I'll do it once with minor tweaks if necessary.

Trob777, I don't know where you get your Frey price from but the Frey AM1000 is in basic spec 2380 US$ which is about 3410 $ Aus?!
The FS Ansbern is either 2080 or 2311 US$ so 2980 or 3310 $ Aus.
