Bafang/8fun BBS01/02 spare parts

Post by ziltoid81 » Apr 10 2014 8:41am

What can we get and were do we get spare parts for the middrive kit?

I rode about 300 kilometers so far.
Everything works fine but the thoughts about replacements for the internal gear parts become louder.
What if the nylon gearwheel will brake tomorrow; in this case the whole kit is worthless for me.

But where do we get them......

Edit:

I will update and add sources here:

http://www.greenbikekit.com/accessories.html
Here you get:
-speed sensor extension cord
-chain cover
-M33 nut
-C961 display
-chain wheel

http://www.greenbikekit.com list a few spares, lock rings, chainrings, guards, displays and speed sensor extensions - no gears yet though.

Hi tomjasz,

I don't think that anyone on the list has such answers yet. I suspect the best strategy might be for someone (you?) to email Paul at em3ev or the fellow from the US BBSxx distributor and ask about internal spares. At his 'news' page, Paul has recently said that he plans to carry a range of spares quite soon. AFAIK that's the most specific news available re spare parts.
http://em3ev.com/store/index.php?route ... ation_id=8

"We will start to stock some spares, the new version controller can be be fitted into an existing kit without too much trouble I am sure."

See my reference to these so-called 'problems' on the main Bafang thread. Living in Australia we may be a bit closer to China (in some ways anyway) than the USA and the UK. It seems clear to me that for an engineering company like Bafang/8 Fun and considering the products they make, I doubt that supplying spare parts to the UK is high on their priority list. I'm sure they'll ge around to it but I'm also sure that they have many competing priorities to deal with too.

EM#ev writes he is just a short drive from the factory and buys direct from Bafang, not from a reseller on Aliexpress. Paul has a good relationship with the factory and writes,
"I cannot see any reason why I wouldn’t be able to supply pretty much any replacement part that is reasonably required. I don’t buy from some guy with an Aliexpress account, I buy from the factory, I don’t envisage any problem with parts. Some special internal part may take a little time to arrange, but not more than a few days or a week or so."

That's a fair and positive answer from my view.

It looks like we'll have a pretty good idea, thanks to this forum, on just what the weak spots are and hopefully a number of us will have a small stash to trade around. Although it's beginning to look like 'merkins are going for the 750W. No surprise.

Looks like I made the right decision and all pieces parts and battery are now in route from Heifei CN. Woo hoo!

Excellent sleuthing! Here's the link http://www.greenbikekit.com/electric-bi ... ement.html.

I've found GBK to be fairly reliable and responsive.

I asked gbk and got the answer that they dont sell the controller seperately.

"The BBS controller is not allowed to sell separately be cause it contains bafang's may technician."

They, GBK 's Anna Lee, answered my questions even though the rest of the staff was on holiday. Also the reason Cell_man was slow in responding this week. Also this tidbit
Anna Lee wrote:"The 750W bbs02 kis is not as stable as 500W version according to Bafang, therefore we no longer sell 750W kit."
I bet on Cell_Man being willing to stand up if one of the controllers in the systems he sold go wonky.

I suspect Bafang reads this forum at some level and sees what some do in terms of programming and systems investigation. Don't get me wrong, I think we need that support from ES members. Thank goodness Kepler and the other talents do the hard stuff for the rest of us not so skilled. BUT it would make any manufacturer less than happy.

Some great technical and programing guys, with patents held for Apple, haven't been able to get around Piaggio's ECU, yet. Piaggio went out of their way to make it difficult. But that's on products that cost $5000 and up. I'm certain Bafang would like to put off the inevitable copycat builds as long as possible. Now who's gonna make me a programming cable.

50 cm from the motor to the end of the cable. The sensor itself is ~ 3.5 to 4 cm.

Regards
Andrew

thank you Andrew. Looks like I should order an extension cable just in case to avoid any delays. Now if Paul could only get some 48/750 kits in stock....summer is nearing in the northern hemisphere!

More spares seem to be steadily becoming available for the BBS - this listing from the German Bike-Emotion site: http://www.bike-emotion.org/pedelec-mot ... /index.php

I note that they are listing:
- a main shaft/gear assembly
- an 'EB-BUS' cable assembly
- a separately connected throttle
- both BBS01 and BBS02 controller assemblies.
The screw-tight collars on the connectors also seem to be a new feature - those on my own BBS01 purchased earlier this year are all of the push-fit variety.

Savvas.

Edit 1:
I take back the last comment about 'screw collars' possibly being a 'new feature'! Elsewhere on the Bike-Emotion site a found a pic which clearly indicates that the threaded-collar cables were a 2013 feature, pre-dating the push-together 2014 connectors most will be familiar with! See: http://www.bike-emotion.org/pedelec-mot ... /index.php
