DaDo.Bzz wrote:In EU we have 250W, but Bosch is on Turbo going 275% Can somebody explain this?
Sure. The varying levels of assist on Bosch motors define the ratio between rider input and electric assistance, but is nothing to do with the peak power available. The maximum assist level is 275% (on the Gen 2 Performance Line motors), i.e. the motor puts in 275% of the rider input. If the rider puts in 10W the motor adds 27.5W, if the rider puts in 50W the motor adds 137.5W etc. The peak power available is a separate issue altogether - yes, the motor / controller combo is nominally rated at 250W although in reality it can add more than that.

eRad is a relabeled BBS0x from Lectric Cycles. Empowered is a reseller for LC products, or perhaps in business with LC. LC has distributors and shops selling their eRad. The have introduced the 100MM kit with a Gearsensor connection to the controller.

The largest suppliers of BBS0x tell me there is no 100MM from Bafang, or 1000W, so either they are making a kit for LC or LC is having another party converting kits for them. These are not from Doug. With Doug we get USA support after the sale, and kits are manufactured to USA standards, IN THE USA, by a brilliant American machinist. I still think someone started to 1000W buzz to draw interest to their Gearsensor mod.
It worked. Lots of buzz, but lots of confusion. So far no reviews of the units with Gearsensors. Frankly after having several Gearsensor versions, including the final, the jury is still out on whether a $90 Gearsensor really proves useful. EM3ev has a $10 button that does the same thing as tapping the brake lever.

I looked into a eRad purchase, but I though the Gearsensor connection was just stolen from an ebrake connection (you can only have 1 ebrake cutoff, for 2 cutoffs total). Is that incorrect? Did they rewire the system to have 3 cutoff options (2 brakes, and Gearsensor)?

From descriptions:
* Compatible with Bafang BBS Motors (BBS01 and BBS02)
* When used with 8FUN Bafang BBS Motors, there will be an increased delay when the motor resumes operation after shifting
* Gear Sensor will have to connect to one of the two e-brake connectors leaving only one connector left for an e-brake lever or sensor.

But it also says:
* Connects to the dedicated Gear Sensor cable that is included with all e-RAD 500w and 750w drive units.

A little confusing.

Thanks.

eRad added a connector from the controller so the Gearsensor is a third connection. It is then mounted in line on the shifter cable near the motor. Shown in the installation video. Much adieu about nothing for to much money, IMO. I find support from this bunch more like pulling teeth. After a number of projects with California Ebikes I'm staying with support that answers the phone and responds to emails. The Cali eBike 100MM is an American made conversion. I'll take a top notch American machinists work over a Chinese redo any day.

The gear sensor connects to a separate cable coming from the motor which was necessary to get the the system to operate seamlessly. There were no combination of parameter adjustments to the e-brake lines to get them to work as well as we believed it should. The gear sensor adds the refinement that allows you to just ride without worrying about tapping a brake lever or letting off the throttle. Although the hobbyist and tinkerers among us may not think much of it, the general public and the vast majority of people purchasing e-bikes want and expect a smooth, easy to use drive system. An added benefit is that it prevents the snapped chains and drivetrain damage that is the hallmark of a powerful mid drive paired with a less savvy rider. The gear sensor works spectacularly well with internally geared hubs such as the Nexus and Alfine hubs...the feedback from everyone who's actually ridden an e-RAD drive unit with the gear sensor has been positive. Take a look at what Karl at electric-fatbike.com has to say, who purchased a standard and 100mm kit. https://electricfatbike.wordpress.com/2 ... all-along/

As for the snarky Chinese Redo comment, the parts for the 100mm kit that do not come with the standard 68mm kits are all manufactured in Tempe, AZ...which is very much in the USA. In fact the quality, machined tolerances and fit and finish are much better than what California e-bikes offers. We use stainless steel for the axle shafts along with anodized 6061 aluminum for the rest of the parts to prevent many of the issues that we saw with the California E-bike conversions. In addition, we include spacers and have crank arms with various offsets to allow the 100mm kits to be fitted on various fat bikes with proper pedal alignment.

We strive to provide the best customer service we can, and in fact communicated with Tom a couple months ago via email. We have thousands of satisfied customers and will continue to support them.

Also to clarify, empowered is not a reseller for Lectric Cycles and is not associated in any way with us. Any speculation they have presented is all on their own. We only wholesale e-RAD branded drive units to dealers that have properly insured, physical businesses that can service local customers.

California Ebike is always glad to see manufacturing opportunities take place within the USA. Pike Research indicates the electric bike industry will grow in the U.S. to over 300,000 bikes by 2018. And the great thing about an expanding market is that as the pie grows, so does the room for many great hard working vendors.

From the start we knew the 100mm extended axle would be copied and we anticipate multiple vendors will offer a Fat Bike kit in the near future. (I could be wrong, but I wouldn't hold your breath for an OEM Bafang 100mm mid drive...)

So Doug has been very open and transparent about the manufacturing and modification process. This is evidenced by his popular Fat Bike mod and installation video on YouTube. We think that video provides great value to Bafang mid drive owners even if they are not modifying their drive for a Fat Bike.

Which is why we, and I'm sure other Fat Bike owners considering the conversion, look forward to seeing the detailed facts that support the quoted statement above.

And Karl does the same thing in his article that Lectric does. Promotes a product by shining a negative light on another business. A poor way to self promote IMO.

With interest I read this thread here because we are manufacturing conversion kit´s for Fatbike 100mm and more bottom bracket with easy install even for people with no mechanical skill´s and we also have a good description how to do "20 steps" to convert a normal Bafang bbs into a Fatbike bbs for under 200usd

Try a strong loctite instead of welding, like Loctite 638 or 648 which is made for close fitting cylindrical parts: http://www.loctite.co.uk/loctite-4087.h ... 2627616769

A 30 mm diameter x 15mm long interface (example) will result in minimum 35343 N tensile shear strength.

thank´s for your advice ;-)
It could work but I like the 100% connecting (please forgive mé my typical german behaviour)
that´s the reason why I chose the welding. I tried different ways (always in mind it should be practical, removeable and cheap) and in result I thought this is the easiest way because in every small city is a welding-company who can do this job for small money. I payed 25usd incl. invoice in germany so without invoice it should be not more than 20usd or two six-pack beer ;-)

Came across this on facebook today, pics of inside a bosch crank drive system.
I wonder if or when some a company like BaFang will copy the Bosch drive. Ahh the perfect marriage of German engineering and consumer value via decent copy.

Bafang already have their own "proprietary frame" system. Don't remember what it's called though. I hate those proprietary systems. They won't fit anything but frames which are custom designed for them.

Has anyone had any experience with this Bafang max drive? It would be interesting to get a bit more info ie price and if
It has a similar torque sensing to the bosch drive. It would be relatively easy to machine on mass a weld in frame piece to modify heaps of different frames to allow the fitment of this drive.

Bosch can keep their drives. If their parts and support matches that given to their appliance line there will be some very disappointed buyers. Just beciuse it's German doesn't mean the quality is first cabin. Great engineering doesn't necessarily mean great longevity.

There is some complaining about Bosch service in a norwegian e-bike group on facebook. It's the motor system that is complained about the most there. Replacement batteries cost an arm and a leg too.

Sweet wont be long now.
Based on the shadow of the chainring hopefully they fixed the chain line issue.
The dimensions are the same as the bbs02 but hopefully they wise up before the release.
60% more torque too cool :D

Wow, finally, a stock 100mm+ BBS and not only that, but more powerful too - and are those funky cooling fins I see....

So, extrapolating from what I see on the motors page, this is a replacement for the BBS02 750W; http://www.szbaf.com/en/components/motor.html

Mild motor, that is seemingly reliable but pretty wimpy. I'd wait for the latest release of the BBS02.

I will want one once they have a torque and shift sensor.

Until then, it is just not a finished product.

I fully understand the desire. After riding 2500 miles I'd be happier if it were easier to adopt the CA3 as well, but I'd be missing out on a great ride.
The quiet power, somewhat stealthy motor, and efficiency, would be seriously missed. I have a DD and GD, but the mid is so much nicer. If only we had our way...
