Hey, Bafang, How About a BBSHD With Just an On Off Switch?

I mean, all those vague articles about all the things you can do to reprogram all those different types of displays- all the downloads, all the software, and all that sitting in front of a stupid screen trying to figure it all out.. Funny thing is Bafang should have programmed the BBSHD to the most optimum settings before dumping it on the market with self serve instructions. This so-called high tech BS aint for me. And this aint no rant. Take the "brightness" on their displays, for example. Can anyone tell me what the purpose of a "0" brightness on a LCD screen is?!?! I could go on and on, but I like R-I-D-I-N-G, not plugging myself into a computer to find out how to make my throttle NOT do the JERK! You dig? (I know you do!)

Maybe DIY is not for you.

I agree as that's half the fun for most of us. If you want something simple, go with a production ebike.

Set controller to optimum conditions.

Unplug display.

Bin display, cap off display part of loom.

Turn on at the battery.

Ride.

I did this with my BBS01 after the display had water ingress issues. Never looked back. 8)

*If you look at the latest specialised bikes - none of them have displays. we were advised by the rep that this was because:
- people found them annoying
- they were the first thing to break
- they were not really required.

Their BMS/Controller has bluetooth control to an app on the phone with simple buttons on the battery as an alternative. The app has way more functionality and is actually pretty impressive.... If they werent limited I'd buy one!

There's a little "hack" you can do to the wheel size of the Specialized (not sure about other brands). Basically, you trick the controller into thinking you're running a much smaller wheel size. This really takes the bike to a whole new level. Sure, you lose accuracy of the MPH, distance, etc via the specialized app but it's worth it (can always track with other apps if needed). Search youtube for the how-to video.

I love DIY! My first mid drive is a totally DIY ebike......and it has a simple "ON-OFF" switch at the battery. I put in a free wheel at the crank, welded a clean bracket for the 600 watt MAC motor, and didn't go anywhere near high tech. Check out my stand-by middrive- it's OK, a bit grindy on the chainring, and definitely not as much fun as the BBSHD middrive. I kept it simple, like Bafang should have.....

Yeah, the Specialized reps are definitely hip to what people want. The BBSHD DCP-14 is pretty worthless, except for the "CURRENT DRAW" readout. I mean, it's essential to know how much current the motor is sucking out of the battery, for obvious reasons. But the tiny size of the font really shows how out of touch Bafang really is. The current draw numbers are TOO SMALL TO SEE, especially when your doing 29 mph on a bumpy trail! I actually had to tape a magnifying glass onto the display so I could see the damn current figure! Anyone want to bet that the next display for 2018 will be a current draw figure at least as big as the mph readout? It's too bad that high tech is usually low IQ. The ebike industry is obviously not making it up that very steep learning curve, yeah?
