Electric bicycle still not popular in most of place in China. So It seems no big problem ride ebike in the bicycle ways.

That looks great. I like the 3" wide tires. Do a 4" fat tire someday.

OT: Just curious, In China, can you ride electric bikes anywhere regular bikes are allowed?

Hi, all friends here!
I would like to have a short report about our bike come with 52V battery how it performs.
We have a test on flat road to compare 48V and 52V battery, how is the difference on the power of start and accelerate by throttle at a distance 80 m. 0 to start, by throttle only, in the smallest gear.
2 person have the test. One in 60KGS weight, another in 75KGS weight, results as below:

First person, in 60KGS, distance 80m,
48V battery: finish at 30.0km/h by 10.4 seconds.
52V battery: finish at 31.6km/h by 10.0 seconds.

Second person, in 75KGS, same distance.
48V battery: finish at 29.0km/h by 12.9 seconds.
52V battery: finsih at 30.0km/h by 12.4 seconds.

Obviously, 52V is more powerful than 48V battery.

Tomorrow, we will have some more test ride up to mountain. Will follow up more news about our test to you.
Below is 2018 AM1000 we are testing and supplying soon.

Ivy-

Thanks for the report. I really like how you give feedback on your development work. Keep up the great work.

Regarding the battery, doesn’t your 48V actually have more cells total than the 52V?

Hi Uli,

For IGH, it will cost us some effect and time to make it reality if there are some demands on it.
We have contacted with the German supplier earlier, they require us to make a 3D drop out file for them confirmation what and how they can supply the parts for our bike.

G'day,
As I'm still very interested in this bike, but want it with an IGH I have a question to you guys who follow this thread here.
- Is it only me who would pay the extra $ for a Rohlof IGH?
- Are there possibly any other options of IGHs for this bike?

I ask this to get an indication if it would make sense for Frey to buy a handful of above IGHs for customers like me who don't want a derailleur. If enough people would be interested, Ivy would surely make it possible!

As we have seen on this thread before Frey is very interested what we - the customer - want. And I really want this bike with an IGH! Even if it's heavier, it is much more durable than any derailleur! That only can be good!

Furthermore I am interested to see if there are other people in Aotearoa interested in this bike as we might be able to ship them together and save a lot of money in shipping costs. Ivy indicated that sea shipping only makes sense for 3+ bikes as shipping would be charged by m3.

And my last question is, are the Wattwheel bikes produced by Frey. Have seen one today and bike looks very similar to Frey AM1000, just with inferior parts. But will give them a call in the next couple of weeks to see what is what...

Thanks in advance

Kind regards

Uli

Have never heard about a lighter Ultra from Bafang

Did you read the article I enclosed in the Link and contact Bafang? The Ultra Max Magnesium Body was for Luna Cycle, if they can have it, I am wondering why Frey couldn't get it. It is a matter of time other potential customer will ask for it as 3 lbs make quite a lot of difference on the Ebike weight.

Nice Colour, Ivy I saw an article in https://electricbike-blog.com/2018/03/1 ... t-battery/
Karl mentioned Bafang has a New Magnesium Body that is 3 Lbs lighter than the current stock. It maybe good if you can offer the lighter weight version in your G4 model.

"The brave, forge ahead.... meet the unknown self!"

I am going to have to suggest a big no on that, in fact PLEASE no!! Unknown self? Something must be lost is the translation to English.

How about "Bravely forging ahead, into adventures unknown" or "Bravely blazing new paths into limitless adventure" or "Blazing new roads into amazing adventures". I kind of like the first one myself. Anyone else?

I agree that whilst I understand what you are getting at with your strap line, it does not translate well into English..
I have an alternative idea, aiming to reinforce the superb dynamics of the AM 1000, and challenging any rider to find their limits riding this bike.. Maybe something more to kick around the forum..!

Personally, I would choose the Fat Bike version, with the 52v battery pack.. And then look to make a "Luna Ludicrous" style of controller upgrade to allow 2500w peak, which I'm certain would be awesome on the AM1000..!

:D
Actually, joking aside I felt like I was brave to take the road less travelled, bypass the middle men and plunge into the unknown (for me).
A few weeks in and a couple hundred km's and I have no regrets, I'm very happy with the performance of my bike.
In hindsight the only thing I would do differently is order the bike with no stickers. They are cheap and after I washed the bike for the 1st time yesterday, using warm water, a soft brush, a hose pipe to rinse and a lot of care, one of the stickers has partially peeled off and now looks a mess. Hardly a deal breaker, but as the rest of the bike seems good quality it's a shame that they chose cheap stickers.

Cheaters?

Ah, I see they now actually have an event for us cheaters.
The Haibike eMTB Race ePowered by Bosch is a race held over an undulating circuit – using part of the famous Laguna Seca Recreation Area, rocky paths, and obstacles. Participants will finish on the leader’s lap, and the leader will need to complete 4 laps.

Entry fee: $55. Fee increases to $75 starting Monday, April 2, 2018. No refunds

Only eMTBs that meet the following California Vehicle Code specifications for a Class 1 electric bicycle are allowed to race:
•includes fully operable pedals
•includes an electric motor of less than 750 watts that provides assistance only when the rider is pedaling
•the motor ceases to provide assistance when the bicycle reaches a speed of 20 miles per hour
•the bicycle does not include a throttle

All eMTBs must pass a technical inspection no later than 30 minutes prior to race start time. Top finisher’s bikes will be inspected after the finish of their race. An inspection corral will be located near the start/finish of the race at the Sea Otter Bridge.
OK, I'll have to use the hidden magnetic reed switch

Hi 18650.
Confused. I didn't suggest 'BUY any other bike'
'The road less travelled' can have a double meaning. The 1st refers to people who do things their own unique way, and not the way everyone else does it. The 2nd is the literal meaning of the words; such as an off-road track etc.
The road less travelled by any other bike means other bikes are not able to travel on that road

I ordered a 3rd gen Frey a few months ago. I have about 240 miles on the bike and almost a couple of weeks ago, the motor stopped working. I made a video of this and contacted Frey.

Ivy mentioned that she reached out to bafang rep and he is unreachable for the next two weeks due to Chinese new year.
Will keep you guys updated on how this gets resolved.
Any update on the dead Motor? I am just curious to know as it might be the 1st case out there on Ultra...

Hey all - and thanks for the detailed info on your experiences with Frey here!

Just pulled the trigger on an AM1000 with the lower end component configuration (e.g. Alibabba shows range from $2000 - ~$3000 for the AM1000). I am a novice biker, a bit older, and really just wanted the 1000w motor in a full suspension bike that would not break the bank. I think this will fit the bill.

I am a software engineer and plan on trying to see if I can port the software over to Android so that it could be modified on the road. Just need to make some sort of Bluetooth adapter for the cable.

I'll try to update as I go along...

Since we're talking design and versions and whatnot, I would LOVE to see you guys (or anyone) come up with a more modern geometry, with more head angle, and the signature "kinked down tube that premium MTBs have.
Essentially look at what Haibike is doing in terms of designs, but not quite as high-end and with the Bafang Ultra instead of the less powerful europe-compliant motors.

Hi DaninSpain,

of course I got the message, when I discovered it wasn't "bUy" but "by". But it took me some time and some wondering. What I wanted to say is, if the target audience is meant to be international, then the message should be simple (and "misunderstanding-proof"). If the audience is the US then it is probably OK.
