nice update Hardcore :) Where did you get the 150mm cranks? That has to be the worst aspect of the bike, scraping the cranks on everything.

Totally agree it chews through rear tyres, I have rotated mine once and almost to the point of doing it again!

Certainly keep check on those suspension bolts and screws, especially the 2 just back from the rear shock, found one hanging on by a few threads recently, even after tightening it. Thinking some threadlock is in order there.

Another downside is the massive display and thumb control. Hate to say it but something smaller would be much nicer, it's just too easy to hit and damage them on tight trails. Specialised have this perfected.

Strava is both fun and a curse, the bike annoys people with some of the partial section times it gets, it's just so damned quick on the less technical parts.
This thumb throttle (left side) is awesome. Plug n play. Much more ergonomic and functional. It is also smaller so controller sits closer to edge. (mount is slim enough to go under controller) here is a link for aliexpress. Under $20 with shipping. 8FUN bbs01/bbs02/bbshd left hand thumb throttle

52v battery performance

Post by rayebiker » Nov 20 2018 1:10am

52v battery performance. A buddy and I both have Frey am1000 with the 52v 17.5ah battery. We rode 28.5 miles in Lake Tahoe (flume trail and rim trail) with 3851 vertical feet of climbing. Moving time of 2 hours and 45 min. We were with a very fit buddy hammering on an Intense, so we were mostly in eco 2 mode (except for the really steeps) so as to not ditch him. At the end we had 49.5 and 49.7 v left. Nearly 50%! We were blown away. Awesome. Love this bike!

these things are the future raye :) I can understand the resistance against them from the hardcore mtb community, I guess if someone has trained hard for years to get where they are and then gets passed by an weekend amateur on an e-bike it would be upsetting.

Having said that, the guys I ride with are mostly open minded, and after much coaxing in getting them onto the frey for a quick spin around the trails it's hard not to smile when seeing them have such a great time. I love my bike and all of it's foibles, if they can get the weight down by 5kg and refine it a bit more then it would no doubt be a sweeping success, and be a direct competitor to the commercial offerings.

Perhaps that's why we now have the m600 powered bikes.. these would be a far better fit to more serious trail riders. 300W is more than enough power... using anything above eco2 on the AM1000 with non ebike riders is going to lose you riding buddys :)

Small update comparing the AM1000 to a non-ebike experience.

Downhill you don't need the motor assist, but the added weight makes is nicely stable. These two compensate each other as I ride similar times with an ebike compared to a non-ebike usually averaging 30 kph.

The reason I like the AM1000 is that I can do multiple runs in an evening up the mountains and do it every day of the week if I want to, which, makes my times on the normal bike better as well.

Interestingly I noticed that my heart rate goes higher on the AM1000, reaching 180 bpm average (compared to 170) and 200 max (compared to 195). This is taken from 45 runs throughout the last months.

If the weather gets a bit nasty (wind, cold, snow, etc) I tend to grab the ebike for a quick training and slap on some extra clothing/protective gear which would normally hinder the bike ride but with the motor you don't notice this.

Also, the biggest ride so far is 75 km on 52v 17.5Ah battery averaging 25 kmh.

Hey guys,

I have a rear light with two stripped wire ends that is 6v. I want to wire it to the ultra max, but I don't know how to do that. Do I need to open the motor itself? I'm afraid of messing with things that I don't have the expertise to mess with, but I don't see any connectors anywhere for a rear light.

Note: This is for a competing brand to the AM1000, but it uses the Ultra Max motor and standard electronic package therein.

I did not find the wire coming front to connect front light to be used with light button. Can anybody post the picture?

There are pics/info on page 26 of this post. I had mine pre-wired from Frey, so the connectors were up near the stem where all the other controller connectors were.

Bula from Fiji

After stumbling upon this thread while looking for Bafang conversion bikes, I am seriously considering the AM1000 from Frey.
I was wondering if I could get some suggestions on componentry, suspension etc for my customization. My riding here is a lot of gravel roads, some double track and cow trails. I am not a DH rider, pretty much XC.
Ivy is currently helping me out with some options to stay within my budget.
Do the Rekon and Monarch perform well?
Would the 17.5ah battery be sufficient for a couple of hours riding?
Looking forward to any assistance.
Thanks

If you want, you can break even the best of components. So whatever you buy will determine how much it can handle based on how you ride it.

The rekon tyres are okay, but depends on the terrain and weather conditions.

You can empty the battery in an hour if you want, but also ride for 4 to 6 hours with low assistance.
Looking forward to any assistance.
Thanks

I'm considering one of these bikes. How does one customize a bike? I see a bunch on Alibaba, but I don't see any way to customize.

Of the bikes on Alibaba, they seem to range from 2200 - $3800 before shipping, but I don't see much difference in the specs for many of them.

What am I missing?

Just contact them directly and then ask for a quote for the additional changes you want to make. The person who usually responds is Ivy.
Differences in cost mostly seem to be due to which front fork you want and the groupset. Some people here also get a 52v battery instead of 48v, and some get a larger battery (I just stuck with the stock 17.5ah one for aesthetic reasons).

How is the range on your 17.5? Is it the 48v or 52v?

I have the 48v 17.5ah battery, which was the stock/default option when I ordered some months ago. Hard for me to say how much range there is as I've only had it a week now, and it's pretty cold where I'm at (and very hilly) so I've only ridden it a few times so far. Today I rode about 45km according to the trip odometer and that took about 50% of the battery, but I was really pushing it in terms of speed and up hills to see how much it can do. Others in this thread with more experience can probably report more accurately.

FWIW I'm pretty pleased with the bike - I'd probably have ridden it until the battery was nearly gone if my face hadn't started to freeze over. :)

I am on a 48V 21ah battery, my commute is 20 miles. I ride it in PAS 3 most of the way, with one 3 mile stretch along a busy road that I goto PAS 5 or full throttle. It takes about an hour to do the trip, and the battery is pretty low when I get there. An easy ride in PAS 2-3 would be fine for a few hours I'd believe.

Thanks! I just realized there were replies within.
I am now considering the full sus with the M600 and high spec componentry.

Anyone know which Crank Arms I can upgrade too. Shimano E6000 or Ex1?

Have the FLX Blade with the Bafang Ultra 510.

Thanks
Miranda Bikes makes a 150 or 155 crank that works. the sku for the 150 is
Delta O ISIS with the 16 q-factor offset.

Unfortunately, they have 1/2 pedal spindle. most mtb pedals are 9/16 so you either need to buy new pedals or switch out the spindle.

My mistake, the pedals are 9/16. There is paint on the threads, so very tight. The 150mm are about 3/4 of an inch shorter
