Traffic "congestion", Australian-style:Nationals senator John Williams wants to limit the speed of mobility scooters.
His campaign shines a spotlight on an often overlooked piece of technology, one that could offer lessons for our transport future.
A mobility scooter is a single-person electric vehicle with three or four wheels, for use in pedestrian areas, often by older people or those with disabilities. But they are more than just outdoor wheelchairs. They're one of the only purely electric vehicles in widespread use throughout Australia.
Photo gallery: 2017 Grinduro :Founded in 2008, CyclingTips is an Australian-based website that seeks to share the beauty of cycling and to inspire cyclists of all levels to become better and more knowledgeable riders.
We’re focused mainly on road cycling — from the professional cycling scene through to challenging local recreational rides — but we occasionally dabble in other disciplines (including mountain biking and cyclocross), but don't like those cheater bikes much.
Includes:Launched by Giro Sport Design in 2015, the third edition of Grinduro was held in Quincy, California, on October 7.
As the name implies, Grinduro is a blend of gravel grinder and mountain bike-style enduro — one long loop of pavement and dirt, with finishing times based not on overall loop time, but solely on four 5-10 minute timed segments designed to reward well-rounded riders.
Because of the mixed terrain, equipment selection is critical. Cyclocross bikes are most capable, but any pedal-driven bicycle is allowed; electric-pedal assist cheater bikes are not.

Today, the site has evolved into one of the most respected sources of ebike and technology news, in-depth analyses and product reviews on the Web.
(Written by the clueless...)E-bikes are an extremely niche market right now, and nobody really knows whether or not they’re going to explode in popularity or just kind of linger on for a while and then disappear.
Stay tuned for next months article "OMG cars are expensive to buy and operate and maintain!"As you’d expect, the privilege of owning a top-of-the-line BMW isn’t cheap, and the same is true of its e-bikes. Lee Chimerakis: How Bike Tours Irrevocably Change One’s Worldview:The Prague Post was an English language newspaper covering the Czech Republic and Central and Eastern Europe which published its first weekly issue on October 1, 1991.
... ends:It’s quite common that the onset of a new decade in one’s life inspires a desire for change, for new experiences that broaden one’s perspective and feel worthy of an investment of time, one of the life’s greatest and most preciously limited commodities. For Lee Chimerakis, saying goodbye to his 50s and hello to his 60s inspired him to pursue a new and somewhat unexpected hobby: bicycle touring.
Traveling to an unfamiliar locale where you don’t speak the language? Not to worry, says Lee, because the tour guides know the area and speak multiple languages. What about a flat tire or a broken spoke? Again, the tour guides are skilled in bike repair and have plenty of spare equipment. Even if fatigue is a factor, upgraded or electric-assist bikes help limit the physical demands of the steepest of inclines.
As Lee and his wife discovered, a bike tour is an inspirational and life-changing experience that absolutely anyone can enjoy.
... and includes THIS pic:Aside from these two vehicles, Yamaha also revealed a concept electric bicycle similar to the BMW ActiveHybrid shown earlier this week, as well as an updated version of its Motobot. In case you forgot, the Motobot is a humanoid robot the company created to ride a motorcycle. It's a little creepy in some ways. Yamaha gave few details about either, but apparently Motobot is now capable of high-speed riding on a racetrack.

We are certainly excited to get our hands on the Stigo folding e-scooter as soon as possible to develop some real-world opinions on it. The design shows a well thought out ride experience. The option to fold it easily and store it away seems highly practical. But it’s hard to know how well a product genuinely fits into your life until you actually try it out. Maybe soon.
You can follow Stigo here on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

Speed Pedelecs are fun, fast, and generating a lot of attention from consumers and dealers. And they face a great future in the market place. But, for now, the market is actually quite small.
The definitions of a speed pedelec start with the regulations that affect the vehicle.
Switzerland has had speed pedelecs since the 90s with as speed limit of 45 KPH. The Swiss model has greatly influenced speed pedelec ideas in the rest of Europe and in North America.
So, what to expect?
I believe that this will be a major category, selling in the millions of units in both North America and Europe. Perhaps 50% of all “e-Bike” sales and potentially replacing all moped sales.
The expansion will be slow in USA until more states adopt California-style e-Bike rules. In Europe, “factor 4” may limit the speed of growth.
But eventually, the regulations, safety issues, and homologation of such vehicles will be sorted out, and these will become major money makers for the industry, not to mention major smile makers for our customers.

By now, I'm sure that many drivers in Norfolk have noticed how many traffic lanes have been used to install bicycle lanes throughout the city.
This is an attempt to get gasoline-fueled vehicles off the road, in favor of bikes. The excuses we are given is that such actions will save the planet from pollution, climate change, etc.
But no one has mentioned the increased wait times and the increase in exhaust fumes from vehicles idling at traffic lights because of fewer lanes.
