They're retrorefletive. Make you easier to see at night

The one in the picture doesn't look like a reflective stripe. It's partway into the knobby tread. My guess is that it's only a cosmetic feature.

Chalo is right, the white stripe is on the last column/row of knobs. There there is a greyish stripe that is reflective that is on the sidewall.

Cosmetic feature makes sense, like white wall automobile tires.

Many Schwalbe tires are made with a reflective stripe. I don’t know about this one but if it is, you will see it specified on Schwalbe website.

The link looks to be for Schwalbe Smart Sam- Performance Tire/Addix compound. So the white stripe may be a way to identify this tire easily from the other choices of tire construction / application. https://www.schwalbe.com/en/offroad-reader/smart-sam.html Looks like you have to click on performance line/wired tire to see it.

It is a Smart Sam performance addix ´white stripe ´
They don’t mention the stripe as reflective

The Smart Sam is made in a variety of sizes and models. This one 26’’ is available black, black reflex, white stripe.

It's part of the german "stvzo" regulation. According to it, you need to have some kind of side reflective material on the wheels. Can be plastic reflectors between spokes or stripes on the tires. Or both, in case you lose the reflectors, which is always a problem on mtbs. It's mandatory; you can get fine if the police is in a "i-have-nothing-better-to-do-than-fining-those-who-help-saving-the-climate-mood"
