Archer D1X Wireless gear shifter

Post by PRW » May 03 2019 2:50pm

I was looking at electronic systems, and came across this wireless gear shifter, which works across any type of derailleur system https://www.bikemag.com/gear/tested-arc ... nents-d1x/.

I like the idea of limited cables, particularly where I have had a battery box cut and welded into a frame, and there are no longer any cable guides.

Has anyone used this yet?

I don’t like wireless remote shifters and suspension adjustment. They don’t work any better, so the only difference is that you have one more thing that can fail.

Cable guides are now available glue-on and very solid. That is not considering that an ebike has a complete wiring routed fr to rr normally, so your cables can use the same route, and jacket if you like.
Make it fool-proof, and I will make a better fool.

Geek. I don't even have a chain of 7,000 Watts why do you need a chain with seven thousand Watts but I do pedal just for show

Doesn't everyone!? Pedal just for show!

I am still looking for the perfect camouflage setup for the battery, besides a triangle bag or panniers or a "too odd" looking bicycle frame. For example, using frame tubes that are too large and stick out to the common passerby eyes, tubes where you can stick a battery into. I personally think its very doable to have a tube that you can shove two-wide 18650's into and whatever voltage. As an example, using 25R's would be 40A at 5Ah, 10S would then be 650mm long, 13S is 845mm long. A frame like that would be something I would be very interested in, and wouldnt mind spending money on. Problem then becomes access to battery for removal, not so much of a problem for charging having it come out the tube.

Wireless Shifting is too much, literally. This is an ebike forum, no one shifts! In fact, for the ones that do shift, a 6 speed rear and 2 gear front is probably all one would need.

XTR di2 - Wired shifting is mass produced and yet still expensive!
Wireless shifting is in a whole new ball park.
Perhaps an auto-shifting unit would be helpful to look into.
