I need info about Arrow E Bikes Please!!!

Post by Skaterkay95 » Jul 27 2019 3:40pm

Hello Everyone! I am new here. I stumbled upon this forum from the topic “Arrow-7 Review... NYC's most prevalent eBike” after looking up info about Arrow bikes on google. I purchased an arrow ebike second hand and I’m looking into buying a new battery as an extra, But I am extremely paranoid about the batteries catching fire. I see some batteries for sale 2nd hand from buyers online but I am scared. Generally speaking how safe are these lithium batteries!? And am I just being overly paranoid!? Also the charger that came with the battery was brand new still in the box but when I charge the battery it gets warm/hot (not to the point where I can’t touch or hold it but I still sleep with one eye open) do you recommend investing in a Cycle Satiator to be safe, and will that help protect against battery fires? And last but not least where do you recommend buying a arrow 7 battery to be safe and reliable? I’m looking for a 48v. Thank you in advance!

In general it is an extremely low probability, potentially catastrophic risk scenario.

You likely have far more dangerous lithium cobalt batteries with higher energy chemistry in your cell phone, tablets, etc.

If you do certain things like overcharge or physically damage the battery probability of fire can rise dramatically.

Sounds like you know all this. Figure out what to do with it. Most of us just live with the batteries.

Don't buy used batteries unless you know what you are doing, even then you have no clue how the used batteries were handled, if they were drained too far, how many cycles are on the battery.

You could go ahead and buy a Satiator charger....
or one of their normal chargers and buy one of their batteries too!
www.ebikes.ca they are in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada (West Coast)
You will know several things from buying products from them
1) The battery packs are professionally built.
2) Grintech has battery insurance
3) Their chargers are genuine and safe.
4) Excellent customer service.

The battery and charger is something to not skimp on.

Thanks! I definitely don’t over charge the battery I have, once the light turns green I unplug the battery and in plug the charger from the wall. But you made a good point, who knows how the previous owner treated it.

I just checked out the website you listed but I don’t see arrow batteries, I’m going to look into the chargers right away. You’re definetly right, I shouldn’t skimp on the charger and battery. I’ll try to get a good quality, lower priced charger until I’m more financially comfortable to get a cycle satiator. I figure it’ll definitely be worth it to increase the life span of my batteries.

I live in NYC and they’re a ton of local EBike Stores that sell and fix Arrow bikes, they sell Batteries for around $480, that is pretty expensive but New is better than a used for a little cheaper (I’m a little worry about even buying a new one from the store because of the stores has bad reviews saying they buy cheap parts online and charge a lot and the parts break so you have to keep going back) but I bet most second hand battery sellers bought their batteries from the local stores themselves so I might as well buy it new. Thanks you guys!!

I have one more question about the arrow ebikes. I know they’re water resistant and even have fenders but how bad is it to lock it outside in the rain (without the battery) because the controller near the bottom bracket I am worried the rain will pool up and ruin the bike. Will a motorcycle cover be an efficient way of covering the controller? And do I have to worry about the throttle and other parts on the front getting ruined by water?

What I am saying is ditch the Lead Acid batteries, use Lithium Ion batteries. If ebikes.ca is too expensive, then you could buy from Home Depot, many have here on E.S.

If you search for "48v 20ah silver fish battery" on Google, you will find some listed. Personally, I would buy it from the local shop for $480 rather than chance some unknown vendor on Alibaba. At least you have a local business you can take it back to if something goes wrong. If you want to make sure you get a quality battery, you could have EM3EV build a custom battery for your existing case. It will most likely cost more than $480 though.

I can't point you to a specific seller other than Ping Batteries, but LiFePo4 is a safer, more stable chemistry than other LiPo batteries. It has a lower energy density, but I still have 20AH Ping packs that aren't too big for my bicycles.

I finally know the name of these batteries!! Thank you guys! I decided I will go with a local vendor, some places online sell it for much more and your right Atleast I can bring it back to the vendor if any issues arise. Idk the difference in LiPo vs LifePo, I will have to do some research but anything safer is a win!! Tell me where I can buy a safer LifePo battery and I’ll check it out. Thanks everyone!
