No kidding. Van Moof bikes are a time-release curse on whoever buys one. They're treacherous, fussy, fragile and complicated to work on, and unbelievably time-consuming to do jobs that would be quick and easy on any normal bike or e-bike.

If you gotta be that vain about wires and batteries, you're going to pay dearly for it. But you'll have to find another shop, because my shop won't touch them anymore.

I'll be happy when I read they've gone bankrupt.

Van Moof (Carlier brothers) started with a thief recovery system. They posted vids of their stolen bikes recovery expeditions on YouTube, and had a big success.

Their ebike is a continuity, surfing on their popularity. It is too expansive and has design flaws that we, DIY builders, are finding ridiculous, but their target customer is far from those concerns. They have sold some 150000 expansive ebikes already. Van Moof has the money now, to improve their bike and launch a solid marketing campaign. Even if they fail with the new bikes ultimately, their success is already achieved.

The reason they give the "Get it stolen get one free" policy is because of the $2000 they ask for them, then can ship you 4 of them from china... Whenever it is too good to be true, do the maths.

I wondered how they carried the generators for the chargers in the middle of the desert. Camels.. of course. I was thinking they had used one of those 2 gallons per mile utility trucks.
