Can anyone ID this peculiar bike/motor?

Post by yoyoman » Jun 14 2021 1:56am

This "motorcycle with batteries" is for sale locally. It looks like there are 5 SLA batteries, so I'm guessing it's 60V? If the controller were 15A to 20A, then would this be around a 1000W motor? For such a relic, would anything be useful on it? frame, rear motor? It's only $50 ;)

I wouldn't buy it, but if you decide to, offer $10-$20 at most.

Assuming he could stuff it into a big car trunk or in a station wagon, $24 is the lowest cost for disposing of it.

Plus, the batteries would need to be disposed of separately (not allowed), and there's the gas money.

Motor itself looks funny, not one instantly recognizable to me. Looks like a drum brake on the left side of it. Its kind of cool, with that moped or small motorcycle front end, and the moped wheel in back. Looks like he got the headset angle a bit steep though.

But yeah, its likely a 500w rated motor similar to those in the current 48v 1000w kits. If the flange is fairly narrow where the spokes attach, like 30mm or so, then its a 500w motor. If its 35mm or more, then its a real motorcycle power motor.

Where I live, you'd get about 3 bucks for each of the old sla's at the place that would buy the metal in the frame for about 1 buck.

What this thing needs though, would be a better frame, with a swing arm for those shocks, a 72v controller, and then some lipos.

On the other hand, it could be fun to save it intact, for some museum in 100 years.

It started out about like this.. They go by a bunch of different brand names. Then somebody hacked the back and put on the banana seat.
The brakes are terrible on those, so wouldn't be surprised if the steep fork rake is because someone ran straight into something... The fork looks pretty bent back to me.

LOL, ya I wish it was, LOL. Actually, I saw a youtube video and it looked like the performance was actually decent, at least on fresh batteries:
