Hello,
I’m looking for a controller with a colored lcd display. I’d like the controller to be sine wave, built for 48-58v 30amps max. I was looking at Kelly controllers, but they don’t have a native display and the connections look uncommon, I’m trying to avoid custom wiring jobs. Thoughts and opinions are appreciated.
Thank you.

KT controllers are common, reliable, and good value, with lots of different power levels and plug styles available. I usually use the LCD4 display, except when I use the LCD3 as a "large print edition".

Is there a more or less authoritative web site for the KT controllers? Models, features etc.

http://www.szktdz.com/en/
or
KT motor controllers -- Flexible OpenSource firmware for BMSBattery S/Kunteng KT motor controllers (0.25kW up to 5kW)

I have no knowledge of this.

Not one that lists every model number. The manufacturer's site lists every flavor and their options, but not each model.

OK, so there I see for example "KT 9 MOSFETS Controller(06B121)"

No mention there of
  • regenerative braking, so there isn't any?
  • cruise control, so not supported
  • USB parameter setting interface, there isn't one?
  • multiple throttle/speed ratios
  • etc.

You can download manuals, but they all look like manuals for the displays.

You wire the controller but program the display. Here's an example of a few YouTube articles for changing the parameters on the KT LCD3 display mentioned above. It has over 20 variables you can change.

Aliexpress is about the best for buying controllers and displays inexpensively. I've bought several on Aliexpress -

I've done 7 KT conversions to date (KT-17a, KT-22a, and KT-35a), and if I've learned one thing, it's the fact waterproof connectors make for a MUCH easier/nicer/neater install. The 1t4 cable alone really makes a difference, eliminating the big bundle of wires from the handlebar area to the controller.

Regen generates heat, so not sure that's available (or a good idea) on the smaller (under 35a) controllers, but cruise should be, though I don't use it so not positive.

The 9 mosfet controller is also known as the KT-22a (early) and KT-25a (later).

Not sure about the question here ("multiple throttle/speed ratios")

Regarding USB, there is a "copy" function for setting up multiple displays in the parameters, but I've never used it.

The KT displays hold the parameter selections, so yes, the manuals are going to be all about the displays (setting the parameters).
