Need fast/cheap motor for 36v 10a LIFEPO4

Post by bigchief » Jul 04 2010 2:11am

So, a while back I bought a 36v, 10a continuous, 10AH LIFEPO4 pack, and a 500w Heinzmann Geared hub motor. The Heinzmann put out a tremendous amount of torque, but the max speed was maybe 10mph. Whatever it was, I could get off and run faster.

So, I've still got this battery pack and I'd like to give this another go. I'm looking for a simple, fast, preferably front-mounted hub motor. My budget isn't so impressive, maybe $300 max, but I can work with just a motor and build the wheel if I need to. I bike five miles to work; the terrain is mostly flat with some potholes, and I'm often caught in the rain, if any of that matters.

If anyone can help, please post purchase links. I see a lot of references here to many different brands and can't find where to buy the motors online. Thanks for the help in advance!

Also, the Heinzmann I was using that ran so slow was a 36v, 500w, "n=164/min" (I assume this is RPM?). Online I found a Heinzmann that is 24v, 235w, "n=174/min". Do you think there would be a tremendous speed difference if I used that one instead?

Aotema motor kit from High Tech bikes. http://www.hightekbikes.com/kits.html You'll get about 24-25 mph. Or E-Bikekit 9 continent motor, about 22-23 mph. http://www.hightekbikes.com/kits.html

You might do even cheaper on ebay, just look for 36v motors like conhis or golden. But the above vendors have customer service and shipping from the US, not china if you have a problem with something.

I just won a 36v 500w RayBen on Ebay (with controller, rim/tire, throttle and charger but no batteries) for $125 shipped, it says it's lightly used but sounds like I got it at a steal because it's apparently a BaFang motor.

My Lifepo4 had a dead cell but I have a replacement; guess it's time to solder and duct tape it all back together in preparation.

I'd imagine it's whatever comes with the http://www.raybenmotors.com/Conversion%20Kits 500watt kit. I'm not sure what the exact rating is but maybe someone else here has the Rayben kit?
