from the small motor thread. I really like the look of this bike, but I am having trouble "seeing" how the top of the "A" is connected. anyone know of one of these in person that we could get a better shot of?

I found http://www.shelter-systems.com/x-wooden-bike-plans.htmlon the net and thought it was funny then I saw the strida and I think I can build one if I can figure out how to attach the top of the "A"

Yes but how does the top of the "A" turn AND fold. there is no head set with this design. on the wooden version I linked to the top is held together with rope(for the folding bit) and pivots against the seat "tube"

I of course will not have pedals of any kind and I think I want to make it front wheel drive, as this will make it easier for the controls and wiring. the battery and everything will be on the front "fork" and I plan on 2 wheels in the back, this will make it a personal mobility vehicle.

I also don't think I will make it as tall. I need to have something that will fit in the boot of a mini.

If I had to make it, I'd make a simple universal:

folding joint on the rear tube, "headset" in the front.

yes that looks easy the square would swing up and butt against the top of the opening in the "seat" tube. this would keep it from opening any further.

OK so the strida uses 16 inch wheels but I think they might be too big looking. any big disadvantage to using a 12 inch wheel?

- Less smooth ride - as there's no suspension.
- Less efficient on rough surfaces.
- Less wheel rim to dissipate braking heat - if not using drum/disc brakes.
- Smaller choice of tyres
- More extreme gear ratio needed - larger front pulley...

I'd stick with 16", if I were you...
