What is the best source for switches/buttons that can be mounted on the handlebar? I mean something that would look clean and OEM-like. I've checked ebay for motorcycle handlebar switch clusters but they are rather pricey (especially the new stuff).

What kind of switch do you need?

They've got a $4 momentary on switch ( grounds to the handlebar ) here:

I am thinking in general, there are many uses for it - on/off control, toggling battery packs between parallel/serial configuration, lights, etc. For high current stuff I'd use relays so switch current handling is not critical. As I said a motorcycle cluster like this looks good but rather pricey :

20 bucks @bspace.

My Ezee front-hub kit came with a small handle bar mounted module containing a switch and a red, yellow, and green LED. This module is separate from the throttle which has its own integrated switch. I bought the complete eZee front hub kit at ebikes.ca. You might ask Justin if he can get parts of the kit individually.

Thanks. All good ideas. I like that switch from batteryspace, probably will order one.

I've been thinking of buying the handlebar mount cluster from these guys. Good price, slide switch for turn signals with push to cancel, accessories on/off and a momentary on off for your air horn.....

Bump on this, since I need some now, too.

Can you make your own handlebar-mounted switches from some parts from home depot? What would be required?

Maybe some PVC fittings and some zip ties or a hose clamp. It'll end up bulky though.

Maybe a couple of cheap shifters could be adapted into switches.

Bought this switch from http://www.batteryspace.com

Plan on using it to replace switch on Crystalyte controller and switch for front and rear LED lights powered by DC/DC Converter with 5VDC output voltage

Unless someone comes up with a better idea? Plan on attaching switch to side of Cycle Analyst with two sided tape.

Question? On Batteryspace web site it say "Switch is water-proof and is rated up to 3A current" Printed on switch package is 1.5A / AC 220V How many amps would this switch be at 48V DC?

Looks like 3 amp is the max. I am not an expert like some of the guys here, but I think at the voltages we are looking at here, that the AC and DC ratings for this switch would be the same.

Having said that, I bet the switch would work for LEDs and a Crystalyte on off switch. The LED lights don't use much power as I understand it and the switch for on off on my Crystalyte, seems really light. Both the key switch and the push button. I have not taken a Crystalyte controller apart, but the switches "feel" like they are not handling much current.

Edit: I hope you got 2 switches and don't intend to turn everything on and off with one. E.g. one for the LED lights and one for the controller.

Will hook everything up with a bunch of alligator clip test leads I bought at Radio Shack and measure Amps if I can figure out how?

No - Controller switch will also turn lights off. That way I will not forget to turn lights off. One less thing to think about. Will have separate switch on handlebars for lights. Bought from http://www.all-battery.com
