So I did do a quick search and couldn't find anything. My apologies if this has already been asked/ discussed before.

I think it's generally agreed that the 2ply 24x2.5 Maxis - Hookworms are some of the best tires out there for street riding, but these are no longer made so I was wondering what other ebikers currently use/ plan on using for Mountain bikes with 24 inch wheels when street riding.

I am planning on getting some 2ply 24x2.5 Maxis - Hookworms for my Stealth Fighter but obviously these won't last for ever and once they're gone that's it I imagine.

I seriously doubt we will be able to find these out there much longer.

So I'm wondering what others use?

Cheers

24" is no longer made as he said....26" is still made.

IMO there is no replacement for a 24" 2 ply Hookworm.

100% quiet...Zero noise at ANY speed! Sticks like your on rails. No tire chatter or bounce like a Crazy Bob that I tried.

I have 6 and no they are not for sale at any price :)

I like my Holy Rollers .. have used hookworms but in the soft sandy stuff they kinda suck.. the HR tires are best of both worlds imo.

How is the noise using Holy Rollers? I would think they would be loud.
Zero noise rocks.

I have not tried this one but made by the same company as the Crazy Bobs

Beware :!: ..... I first ordered from them and they sent me 1 plys I returned..... I would call or email first and ask.

That sucks about 24" hookworms. I have a specialiized p.24 coming and they were my choice if i don't like the 2.3"
specialized rythym lights that come on it.

Put a Schwalbe Crazy Bob on the rear last night. Didn't have time to put the other one on the front, so my bike looks pretty funny atm with a 3" Felt Berm Master on the front and a 2.5" Crazy Bob on the back.

I emailed the place below.

Apparently they've only got about 8, 2ply Hookworms in stock. He reckons they won't last more than a few weeks.

I still haven't bought any as yet, as I thought I'd see how the Crazy Bobs go first, since I'd have to get the Hookworms double shipped to get them to me in Australia making shipping more $$$ than the tires themselves.

Cheers

Nothing will ever replace the Hookworm, but a Holyroller would kick ass is if didn't have to live in the Hookworm's shadow.

How is the noise on a Holyroller? I could not live with the noise a Crazy Bob makes and dumped them in the trash and bought several Hookworks for backup. The Crazy Bobs seemed to be made out of plastic and the Hookworms rubber.

So is the noise from the tread pattern or the tire compound its made from?

i dont hear nothin from my HR's ( and i'm picky about sound.... me hates the 9C motors for that reason )

Street riding? That would point towards the plastic compound used in the Crazy Bobs then.

I'll try a set...thanks

The Holy Roller has a softer gum than a Crazy Bob, and definitely quieter. The Schwalbe though, has stronger construction.
Try the Kenda Kniption in wire beaded version, dual compound. This one is sticky and quiet.

What noise?
Next time dump them my way. ;)

I got my other Crazy Bob on the front last night. Ride to work this morning was fine. Way quieter than my Berm Masters were.
They also seem like they are made from rubber to me...not plastic.

Paul, maybe you got fakes or a bad batch?

Now I like the look of that. :D
Might have to try a pair once I've worn through my Berm Masters and 4 Crazy Bobs, which with the way I ride shouldn't be too long. :D

No one has suggested CST cyclops 24 x 2.4 yet? It's basically the hookworms, but now double ply. I've been using it for months now and I love them. Best part is that they're less than $20 shipped

Appearantly, the 24" Hookworms are still available. This store, for one, still has them,

http://www.bikebling.com/Maxxis-Hookworm-24-Tire-p/maxxis-hookworm-24.htm

How does the overall height of a 24" X 2.5 tire compare with a standard 26" road tire, say a 1.9?
I'm wondering if I change over, how much the bike might be lowered.
Thanks

It'll probably stay relatively the same.. might be a bit lower but nothing which you can notice except for the comfort it will provide

I Have a Specialized P24 which I love but not real Impressed with the Specialized Rhythm Lites that came on it. The tires are huge But very soft. Already got a flat on the rear tire, a slice about 3/8ths of an inch long. I patched the tube but don't trust the tire to last much longer with the slit in it. I'm Having a hard time finding a replacement. Looking for a 24*2.0 inch slick with inverted tread, strong puncture resistant bead, and low rolling resistance for city riding. Something very much like the hookworms that I can't find in this size. The tioga power blocks look good but I have read are very weak for city riding same with most of the bmx race tires.
