Ok, I ordered the following triangle pack from ebikes.ca:

I also got the custom fit triangle bag. Now, I'm looking for a full suspension bike that would fit this pack in the triangle. Any front suspension only bike would work with this pack, but I really want full suspension for the comfort factor.

I looked at the Target bike (s60?) and it would not fit. Also, I went to Kmart and they had a bunch of cheap FS bikes that were too cluttered with metal in addition to the suspension spring.

In order of importance I would like the bike to have a 1) steel rear dropouts 2) front disc brakes. I guess I can work with rim brakes, but I have a regular bike with discs and love the stopping power. I'm pretty confident that I can fit rear rim brakes on. Prefer steel b/c I'm nervous about spreading aluminum.

I will be using a rear hub (haven't decided btw the golden motor or a crystalite)

I saw this one a while back at Costco:

Even though the above link shows a female version, there is a male one that has a traditonal male top tube. Also, I"m not too crazy about that rear spring behind the seat tube.

Thanks in advance.

So...you are going to buy $1500 worth of ebike bits and fit it to a $200 bike?

The bike is the bit with the things like functional brakes, and structural integrity...

Yes, you want DECENT disc brakes. But why do you want steel dropouts exactly? If you fabricate some decent torque arms you can use any bike frame which will suit your battery - and almost all the decent bikes are aluminium. Even a steel framed bike needs torque arms.

And please think about a decent bike - the difference between a decent bike and a POS Walmart crapper is huge.
- Brakes that work, like your life depended on them
- Gears that shift when you want them too
- Bits that last longer than 6 months...you know, frames, forks, wheels....ancillary bits you don't need ;)

Thanks, Mark.

I want the steel dropouts to cold spread them to make them fit the hub (if needed). I'm nervous about spreading aluminum. I know these hubs say they are standard widths, but many here have reported that they've had to jimmy something or other to make them fit. I will put a torque arm on there regardless.

As for gearing, I don't see how I'll be using anything but a granny gear to assist my bike in getting up a monster hill :D .

Hi Bumper,

fwiw i agree with Mark totally, look at a second hand bike - you get a lot more for your money in that market with decent components to start off with.

Cheers,

D

you will not have to spread the frame to fit the hub unless the hub is defective. they are designed to fit in a 135mm standard drop out. I just got the frame pack and battery from ebike.ca, and it is a nice set up. very stealthy, and much better handling than having a a boat anchor hanging off the back of the bike.

heck out the mongoose Sommet , the third bike down. That is the type of FS bike you can run the ebike.ca front frame pack on.

That's more like it! The suspension spring there gives you more room. 20" is larger that I'm used to. That's the only size they have on that site. Maybe look for a local shop that carries it.

Any others?

Its hard to find a decent design FS bike with a old style diamond frame and a rear shock that doesn't take up too much of the space in the frame.

The BMC rear hubs have a disc mount right on them that will take a standard mountain bike rotor.
