The Daily Telegraph, commonly referred to simply as The Telegraph, is a national British daily broadsheet newspaper published in London by Telegraph Media Group and distributed across the United Kingdom and internationally. It was founded by Arthur B. Sleigh in 1855 as The Daily Telegraph and Courier.

The Telegraph is widely regarded as a national "newspaper of record" and it maintains an international reputation for quality, having been described by the BBC as being "one of the world's great titles". The paper's motto, "Was, is, and will be", appears in the editorial pages and has featured in every edition of the newspaper since 19 April 1858.

The paper had a circulation of 458,487 in November 2017, having declined following industry trends from 1.4 million in 1980.

Hehe... Feeling "wired" yet?

Image
(Wiki:)
Wired is a monthly American magazine, published in print and online editions, that focuses on how emerging technologies like ebikes affect culture, the economy, and politics. Owned by Condé Nast, it is headquartered in San Francisco, California, and has been in publication since March/April 1993. Several spin-offs have been launched including: Wired UK, Wired Italia, Wired Japan and Wired Germany.
Electric Bikes Want to Take On Everyone—Even Uber:
https://www.wired.com/story/shared-elec ... -everyone/

Starts:
Riding an electric bicycle is a bit like becoming the Hulk. When I hopped on a pedelec bike owned by Jump Bikes (”pedelec” short for “pedal electric cycle,” an e-bike with a small motor that assists pedaling but doesn’t do all the work) for a ride around San Francisco, I felt just a touch stronger. Like someone had sprinkled me with a few gamma rays.

Goes on:
The e-bike was better than a regular bike, obvi. But it might be better than the bus, too. And better than another awkward conversation with an Uber driver.

Ends:
Shaheen, the transportation specialist, says cities that have gone ahead and launched bike-share programs often see infrastructure and riders grow together. "As the system scales there's more of a consciousness or awareness in the community that more supporting bike infrastructure is needed," she says. And if you're going to ride a bike—well, it might as well be electric.

Open Space launches e-bike pilot program
("Class 1 e-bikes now allowed at all JCOS parks"):
http://www.columbinecourier.com/content ... ot-program

Starts:
Mountain bikers will now be able to use e-bikes at any Jeffco Open Space park.

The agency announced Tuesday night at its annual Trails Talk Forum, which addresses e-bikes and four other topics, that it will be launching its e-bike pilot program through the rest of 2018. The program will evaluate the impact of class 1 e-bikes on both the trails and other park-users, and then Open Space will determine how to address their usage into 2019 and beyond.
BTW... "they" say:
Jeffco Open Space was founded as a land conservation organization in 1972 by PLAN Jeffco and The League of Women Voters of Jefferson County. These organizations proposed a unique concept to the Board of County Commissioners to preserve the scenic vistas and open lands within the county using the collection of one-half of one percent tax on sales in Jefferson County to fund the program. The voters agreed, thereby ensuring perpetual land conservation, stewardship of open space and parklands, and access for public enjoyment.

Funded with a one-half of one percent sales tax, Jeffco Open Space contributes to city and park district projects, has preserved more than 54,000 acres, and manages 28 open space parks and more than 252 miles of trails in Jefferson County, Colorado.
Sigh... Political animals just LOVE a "pilot" project.

Must Bike Sector Brace for Automotive Invasion?:
http://www.bike-eu.com/sales-trends/nie ... n-10132957

Starts:
HAMBURG, Germany – From four to two wheels, that might be the motto for many car components suppliers. As e-bikes pick up speed and car makers are turning to electric mobility what are the huge number of makers of mechanical car parts to do? Will they follow the examples set by Bosch, Continental, Brose and others? In other words; must the bike sector brace for an automotive invasion?
:D

Includes: Tier1 auto-suppliers

Other companies follow suit. The Rheinmetall Gruppe e.g. has a solid reputation as a producer of cylinder blocks. Now it turns to the production of e-bike motors with its own start-up Amprio. Marquardt Group has helped BMW building an e-scooter and sells displays for e-bikes. The companies’ main business is still known e.g. for switches and applications for the automotive sector. Another Tier1 auto-supplier is Öchsler; well-known e.g. for its central lockings but to further diversify the company has not only developed a motor for e-bikes but also an automatic gearbox – all integrated in one unit.

Financial Express is an Indian English-language business newspaper. It is published by the Indian Express group since 1961. Financial Express specialises in India and international business and financial news.

India's oldest financial daily, Financial Express is today one of the leading newspapers in the country.
Clean transport, not just electric: Pankaj Munjal, CMD, Hero Cycles
("While the EV push is welcome, there has to be an equal thrust on multiple clean transport solutions"):
http://www.financialexpress.com/opinion ... s/1076251/

He starts:
With the Indian government talking about a rather ambitious target of selling only electric vehicles (EV) in the country by 2030, there is palpable excitement as well as anxiousness in the transport industry. A number of players in the automotive space are now working to introduce more efficient EVs. However, it is also pertinent to analyse our collective readiness towards this bold target. It is not difficult to foresee that replacing the entire fleet of petrol and diesel vehicles with EVs is easier said than done. We must ask will our infrastructure be ready by 2030 to support the colossal change? Will the new-age EVs ensure high degree of efficiency and smooth running? How are we going to ensure that this transition is smooth?
... then goes on and doesn't mention ebikes once? But maybe a "high degree of efficiency" is a code phrase for electric bikes.

Rent A Bike, Catch A Train: Two-Wheelers As Last-Mile Connectivity To Mass Transit:
https://swarajyamag.com/infrastructure/ ... ss-transit

Starts:
To improve last-mile connectivity to metro stations in Bengaluru, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has tied up with a startup called Metro Bikes, which will offer two-wheeler rentals at metro stations, reports Inc42.

In 2016, the BMRCL had tied up with Metro Bikes’ parent company, WickedRide, to offer bike rental services at stations.
Includes/Ends:
A case for e-bikes

As the Union government pushes for electric vehicles, adoption of e-bikes for last-mile connectivity is sensible. Further, without the licence requirement, it would see a larger adoption by the crowd. The power output of an e-bike is far lesser than that of a bike powered by fuel, thus making it less dangerous in the event of an accident.

If e-bikes are given a preference, it would also result in an increase in charging stations. These could later be extended to cars as well, when the demand is created.

Over the long term, Bengaluru and Chennai are on the right track.

http://www.sunnews.org/business/local-p ... s-5-years/

Starts:
It’s hard to believe that two tires connected by a piece of metal and equipped with an electric motor is redefining the meaning of fun, but in many ways it is. It’s called a Pedego electric bicycle and for baby boomers, it’s become the best thing since rock and roll.

“We are very happy today,” said Beth Black as she and Brian Ballard on Saturday celebrated both their dealership’s 5th anniversary and the overall success of the Pedego company.

More than 100 customers, most riding their bikes, showed up for the re-ribbon cutting ceremony sponsored by the Seal Beach Chamber. Pedego of Greater Long Beach welcomed the Seal Beach chamber, Mayor Michael Varipapa, Congressman Dana Rohrabacher and many loyal customers as they finally cut the ribbon to rededicate the business. “We think Seal Beach is the perfect location,” says Black, although they named the business Greater Long Beach because of the sales territory awarded to them by Pedego.

First glimpse of new Curtiss electric bikes:
https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/n ... tric_bikes

Starts:
Remember Confederate? The bike firm beloved of the Hollywood jet-set and favoured by Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and David Beckham is reinventing itself as the Curtiss Motorcycle Company this year and turning its attention to electric bikes.

The company announced that much last year, but now details have emerged that give our first glimpse into exactly what these new machines will be.

Official channels reveal only that Curtiss, which remains owned by Confederate founder Matt Chambers, will reveal its first electric machine on 5th May. A teaser on the company’s Instagram account shows that it will be called the Warhawk, but gives away little else. However, the company has filed official paperwork with the American National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that tells us far more about its plans.

The 5 Most Badass Utility Bikes at Interbike:

[Spoiler Alert! Surprise! One bike does NOT have a better-electric assist.]

Starts:
Stop whining about pedal assist. It’s here to stay and it’s totally rad.

The haters are going to hate, but e-bikes are the future, especially in the urban and utility realms. And before you jump all over the holier-than-thou, don’t-be-so-lazy arguments, ask yourself, “Would you rather see more electric-assist bicycles in your city or more cars?” The momentum and growth in this segment at Interbike reflected the enthusiasm, with pretty much every major manufacturer showing some iteration of a pedal-assist model and dozens of upstarts launching models, too.

"electric car"... [repeat endlessly]... [Sigh]

BUT the site article DOES have a sidebar piece... Why an electric bike is music to my ears...

... watt starts:
An alternative to being stuck in a traffic jam is to take a bicycle ride instead – just as long as the distance and weather permit.

One of the great appeals of cycling is it helps keep you fit. But if the idea of struggling up a steep hill using pedal power fills you with dread, then you could consider jumping on an electric bike.

These battery-powered iron horses – often referred to as e-bikes – are popular. Although there are currently only 50,000 electric bikes on Britain’s roads, it is predicted there could be as many as a million within a decade. In China, more than 200 million people use e-bikes.

Wheels come off bicycle hire service in France:
https://www.thelocal.fr/20180225/wheels ... -in-france

Starts:
People wanting to get on their bikes in France have one option less to do so after the Gobee.bike hire service said Saturday it was closing following a welter of thefts and vandalism.

"It is with great sadness that we are officially announcing to our community the termination of Gobee.bike service in France on 24th February 2018," the Hong Kong-headquartered service said.

"Over the months of December and January, the mass destruction of our fleet has become the new entertainment of underaged individuals," said Gobee.bike, which had rolled out 2,000 two-wheelers in Paris alone and had some 150,000 users across France.

The company said that "more than a thousand bikes" had been stolen and almost 3,400 damaged nationwide, with almost 300 complaints filed to police and 6,500 repairs needed.

Gobee.bike had already thrown in the towel in the northern cities of Lille and Reims as well as Belgian capital Brussels for the same reason.

Ends:
Gobee.bike and other rivals such as Ofo or Obike had hoped to bag market share after Paris authorities in January threatened sanctions against the new operator of the city's better known Velib system, over a chaotic rollout under a new contractor that left some 300,000 users seething.

The sturdy grey bikes are a familiar sight in the French capital, popular with tourists and commuters alike a decade after the scheme was launched.

But a redesign and partial switchover to electric versions, plus a change of management from French giant JCDecaux to Franco-Spanish upstart Smovengo proved messy.

After weeks of disruption, just 64 docking stations were operational by mid-January out of 1,460 supposed to be up and running by April. Many riders complained the mobile app regularly crashed while calls to customer service went unanswered.

Smovengo blamed the delays on electrical problems and a legal dispute with JCDecaux.
Franco-Spanish upstart Smovengo proved messy...

Zero has been occasionally described as the “Tesla of motorcycles,” and last year’s model DS ZF6.5 as the “Model 3 of motorcycles.” When you’re one of the only electric motorcycle manufacturers in the game, it’s frankly hard to avoid these comparisons. http://www.peninsuladailynews.com/news/ ... the-works/

Starts:
SEQUIM — Sequim is peddling its way to becoming one of the first cities in the U.S. to have a wheelchair bike program in its backyard.

The Sequim Wheelers’ program, a nonprofit started in November by bicycle enthusiast Nicole Lepping — a Sequim resident and regular bicyclist on Olympic Discovery Trail — is to the best of her knowledge, the first program of its kind in Washington state and fifth in the nation.

“I saw a wheelchair bike video of the Healing Rides program in Illinois,” on the Olympic Discovery Trail website, “and I was instantly inspired to start this program for our community,” she said.
Includes a pic:

There are currently four other wheelchair bike programs in the U.S. — including the Portland (Maine) Wheelers, shown here — making the Sequim Wheelers the fifth in the nation and the first in Washington state. (Portland [Maine] Wheelers)

Ends:
The Sequim Wheelers is asking for donations and grant money to purchase two electric wheelchair bikes with pedal-assist features such as this one shown in a graphic from the Portland (Maine) Wheelers.

Newmobility.news wants to be your trusted source in the rapidly evolving world of new mobility. With daily coverage of emerging new technologies, services and legislation that may affect your business as it is today. As a possible threat but certainly as a new opportunity too.
... and:
Newmobility.news started as Belga News Agency’s Gopressmobility in April 2017 to become Newmobility.news in 2018, by a fully independent split off, called B2BNews Agency, founded and owned by the initial team that created the Gopressmobility news service. B2BNews Agency is based at Boortmeerbeek, BELGIUM.
One third of e-bikes bought for commuting:
https://newmobility.news/2018/02/26/one ... commuting/

Starts:
In Flanders more and more people buy an e-bike for commuting. 34% of all Flemish e-bike owners bought their electric bicycle to ride to and from work, in 2015 only 21% did, according to mobility organization VAB’s mobility barometer, based on a survey of 2.000 people.

More potential for the e-bike

There still is a lot of extra potential for the bike as an alternative transport means though, says VAB. All the more because of the ever more saturated roads and the traffic problems caused by the drastic roadworks to come, like the reorganization of the Brussels ring road and the implementation of the Oosterweel connection in Antwerp.

The number of people with an e-bike has risen from 6 to 15% in Flanders. In 2015 mostly golden-agers used an electric bicycle, but now the working population is catching up with them.
