Industry groups worldwide form new World Bicycle Industry Association:
http://www.bicycleretailer.com/internat ... k5fpbBG21g

Starts:
New organization will give the bike industry a voice in vehicle-to-vehicle technology discussions.

HERGISWIL, Switzerland (BRAIN)—The World Bicycle Industry Association has formed, with founding members from the Bicycle Association Japan, the Bicycle Product Suppliers Association based in the U.S., the Confederation of the European Bicycle Industry and the Taiwan Bicycle Association.
Includes:
“Vehicle-to-vehicle communications are advancing rapidly and as an industry we were kept out of the discussion because we did not have a worldwide association. Now we do and we will be participating in these discussions going forward as ebikes and light electric vehicles need to be apart of these discussions,” said Moreno Fioravanti, ‎the secretary general of the European Bicycle Manufacturers Association and an executive at Accell Suisse AG. Fioravanti was the driving force creating the world group.

... and:
“While we don’t have a similar system to ITS in the U.S., we know that many things developed in Europe get adopted here in one form or another. So it's important for the U.S. industry to know how things are developing,” said Larry Pizzi, who is WBIA’s second vice-president, as well as BPSA’s vice president and chairman of its e-bike committee and managing director of Raleigh Electric.

The Alaska eBike Store: This electric bike shop recently moved from 5610 Old Seward Highway into a new spot at 2229 Spenard Road. Owner Cary Shiflea said the store is open by appointment right now while he‘s waiting for peak cycling season to return. Probably sometime in late February or early March, the business will be open regularly during the week.

“We had it kind of set up in a warehouse district, testing the market with that,” Shiflea said, “and as we saw clientele growing and business growing, we said, ‘OK, we need a full retail space.‘ “

The shop, which was in its old space for a couple of years, sells electric bikes, parts and accessories.

Electric Bike shop introduces speed pedelecs with in-store registration service attached :
https://cyclingindustry.news/electric-b ... -attached/

Starts:
Electric Bikes Sussex has announced that it will introduce speed pedelecs to its stores, with the added bonus of handling the necessary legal registrations in store.

Speed Pedelecs fall outside of standard electric bike rulings, which limit builds to 15.5 mph and just 250W of electrical output, meaning that they fall within the categorisation of mopeds. Able to reach 45kph, speed pedelecs have been a touchy subject for the bicycle business, with warnings issued that there is “no grey area” in type approval.

The Top 3 Electric Bicycles That Impressed Us In 2017:
https://cleantechnica.com/2018/01/05/to ... d-us-2017/

Starts:
There was an explosion of electric bicycles (e-bikes) in 2017, and we can safely bet 2018 will give us even more, to choose from. The real question is, will anyone break the quality entry-level barrier? We think we found one.

Includes:
We easily rode 30 e-bikes or more this year. Almost all of them impressed us one way or another. Some are expensive and others more affordable. As with most expensive e-bikes, you pay for the difference in quality and feel. But not all entry-level e-bikes have to feel like a cheesy attempt to convert a heavy regular bike with a battery pack and an electric motor.

Commuters power Brompton to 15% rise in sales
("British fold-up bike maker also reports sharp jump in pre-tax profit"):
https://www.ft.com/content/c8657f6a-f22 ... 7e26d1aca4

Starts:
Commuters switching public transport for pedals helped power Brompton Bicycle to a 15 per cent jump in annual turnover — to £32.7m — after the British maker of fold-up bikes moved to a new factory in London.

The privately owned business said the main engine of growth was its home market, where sales rose by more than a fifth in the year to March 31, while strong performances also occurred in countries including Singapore, China and Spain.
... and:
Although total sales in 2016-17 were roughly flat at 43,964, Mr Vary said Brompton sold more expensive special edition models. It is also seeking to boost unit sales through the launch of an electric-powered fold-up bike, with the first deliveries expected this year following final testing.

I was looking for a review on the new Motobecane HAL eboost since I am not that familiar with the Shimano mid-drive and they are a decent introductory price of $3,500 at bikes direct. A search led me to MTBR and of course the comments immediately went to
.
"Sweet Moped! Remember that it is not a bicycle and be sure not to ride it on trails designated for MTB."

Huh. Losing track... Is that now one billion Pedego stores? Kinda expect stores with electric bikes to pop up in "urban"/city/"big" "towns" and "cities"... Kinda amused to see one pop in "cottage country"... Well, just announced as "Opening May 1st, 2018!"... Like, the whole neighbourhood is "seasonal"... It POPS in the "summer months"... then goes pretty "deads-ville" the rest of the year...

Seen here:
Visit Pedego Kawartha Lakes
http://pedegoelectricbikes.ca/dealers/p ... -lakes-on/

The "city of Kawartha Lakes"?:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kawartha_Lakes

So, a city watt has "main population centres"...

So. I wish `em well... but kinda wonder about annual gross sales/revenues figures aka "profits"...

Hehe... BikeBiz picks up that news re Brompton...

Image

Brompton rides tall on increased sales and profits:
http://www.bikebiz.com/news/read/brompt ... its/022483
£1m has been invested in the company's new electric Brompton, which becomes available for sale within the next month or two.
:)

Interesting... How to spend one million bucks on developing/building an electric bicycle.

... and "TDM" picks up that article on Curbed...

(They say:)
Transportation Demand Management (or TDM) are strategies and information to help reduce congestion, save you time, and money on your commute. TDM helps people and employers educate and use all their transportation options to optimize all modes in the system – and to counterbalance the incentives to drive that are so prevalent in subsidies of parking and roads.
