Chinese delivery workers confronted Mayor de Blasio at a town hall in Flushing last night, asking him to rethink the city’s upcoming crackdown on e-bikes and work to improve conditions for people who use them to earn a living. The mayor said the e-bike enforcement plan is non-negotiable, but that the city may be open to legalizing them in a way that “protects public safety.”

Speaking on behalf of 20 Flushing residents who deliver food in Manhattan, Jinhua Li asked through a translator if the city could protect e-bike workers instead of policing them. I am very interest in hearing from you about what do you think of the idea of developing an electric bicycle transit system.

Electric bikes are inexpensive to buy (between $700.00 and $1500 for a good quality urban bicycle) and maintain, the users need no licenses, insurance or paying parking fees.

The community would benefit from less traffic congestion, better air quality and reduced need for parking spaces.

That adds up to increasing sales. About 400,000 e-bikes are projected to be sold in the United States this year, double last year’s total, according to PeopleForBikes, an advocacy and industry trade group. But that would be just 2.5 percent of the 16 million bikes sold in the country.

IF BMW folks "had a brain" and politicians (doubtful)... they'd be riding under canopies supporting "thin-film" solar cells...

http://www.mangalorean.com/telangana-la ... ext-month/

Starts:
Hyderabad, Nov 23 (IANS) The Telangana government will next month launch its policy for electric vehicles to provide incentives to manufacturers and private players setting up charging stations, a senior government official said on Thursday.

Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary, Industry, Commerce and Information Technology, said the policy will offer incentives for setting up charging stations and enable creation of infrastructure like allotment of lands.

The policy will also provide necessary regulatory framework for the sector. The government will amend certain laws so that the power can be drawn from power stations for charging facilities, he told reporters on the sidelines of an event where Mahindra Electric and Zoomcar announced launch of shared mobility in Hyderabad.

Zoomcar has deployed 20 Mahindra e20Plus on its platform for hire.
Mister Ranjan commented that folks can safely ignore the millions of 220 volt, 50 cycle AC electric outlets "out there" in Telangana... as "not reliable"...
