Our founders started Digital Trends to solve a major problem: How do we introduce people to the world of ebikes and technology in a way that is fun and welcoming, not intimidating and snarky?

Digital Trends was founded in 2006 by Ian Bell and Dan Gaul, and started out above a small furniture store in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Their goal was to share with the world their love for home theater, ebikes, and all things tech -- but from their unique viewpoint that technology should be fun, easy to use, and designed well. That vision has grown to be shared by hundreds of millions of people around the world, and our little company has expanded to more than seven offices worldwide and over a hundred amazing and inspirational employees.
LimeBike wants to help you get around on its new escooters:
https://www.digitaltrends.com/cars/limebike-e-scooter/

Starts:
If you thought your days of zooming about your neighborhood ended when you graduated middle school, think again. Here to prove that there is indeed a renaissance of two-wheeled vehicles (and not of the bicycle or motorcycle variety) is the escooter. It’s all thanks to LimeBike, a company that was initially dedicated to bringing bike-sharing to all corners of the U.S. But now, it’s expanding into other transportation options as well, and you better believe that includes electric scooters.

These scooters, called Lime-S, can go up 14.8 miles per hour and have a maximum range of 37 miles on a single charge. As far as pricing is concerned, you’ll need to pay $1 to unlock the scooter, and an additional $1 for every 10 minutes of riding. So if you’re looking to spend, say, an hour on a Lime-S, be prepared to shell out a grand total of $7 (not bad, if we do say so ourselves). Interestingly, LimeBike says that these scooters were all built in-house, rather than relying on a third-party manufacturer to provide the gear. That means that if something should go wrong with any Lime-S, LimeBike should be able to get things fixed quite efficiently.
... and a pic:

... and apparently their next versions may be easier to pedal!

The evolution of the Pedelec is something that I am particularly excited about, with technology being such a major part of our lives it is facinating to see it confronting the cycle industry in so many sectors and electric bicycles in particular. With the arrival of electric bikes, opportunities are opening up in numerous sectors helping create completely new products in Road and Off road markets; there’s so much more yet to explore – Crosshead already have 3D concepts to help with internal planning the future. It is already apparent when I talk with fellow cyclists that the stigma attached to electric bicycles has all but disappeared, encouraging more people onto bicycles and extending the years older cyclists keep active.

OK. 15A x 120v - 1,800 watts. Charged for 3 hours at 100% efficiency that would give you 80% charge in 4.3 hours, not three. Did I miss something?

Edit: OK. This is made in India and they are on a 230 v 50 cycle standard. So that three hour wall charge rate makes more sense.

Also, giving a highway range based on a 50 mph speed is kind of silly. In the U.S. that should be 65 mph. Looks like a nice city bike though.

Guessing, as per "normal" chargers, they charge fastest at first then slow as they reach near 100%? IE, the charge rate isn't linear.

Some large ebike company with lots of money should help the delivery workers go on strike. Maybe selectively refuse deliveries to NYC lawmakers. Bike company would pay the workers so they don't starve during the strike.

That last one, Outside is a fairly widely read magazine. Looks like the lines are being drawn alright, it’s going to be unfortunate if the club bikers/ebikers conflict thing gets more intense. Some of the clubs have a lot of members and are pretty darned serious about what they do.

^^ Hehe... "Laws"... "Regulations"... "Policies"... Re vehicles, but perhaps all designed to regulate human *behaviors*?

With "problems" including that "laws", etc can vary from place to place and over time... and might ignore changing technologies?

With "things" also complicated by one of the "Laws of Ben Franklin"... who pointed out than many/most folks end up "dying" at an early age but aren't buried `til much later... that folks go "brain dead". With other complications including "vested interests"... (One dictionary definition: "people or organizations who have a financial or personal interest in a business, company, or existing system"...)

Lots of references to "Drawing a Line in the Sand". [Smile] Often implying some sort of conflict...

Anyway... Yah, OK, pass laws etc to regulate human behaviors... but to regulate technologies? I'm not convinced. [Grin]

Hamilton County is a county located in the U.S. state of Indiana. Census 2010 recorded a population of 274,569. The county seat is Noblesville. In 2010, Hamilton County was home to three of the state’s 20 largest cities and towns: Carmel (8th), Fishers (9th), and Noblesville (14th).
Carmel City Council broadens role for proposed bicycle administrator :
http://youarecurrent.com/2018/02/13/car ... nistrator/

Starts:
After much debate about a proposed full-time bicycle administrator at City Hall, the Carmel City Council has decided to alter the position. After receiving a new job description from the department of Community Relations & Economic Development, the position has been broadened to include more than just bicycles. It would be called a “transportation development coordinator” and would handle all forms of transportation in Carmel.
Includes/Ends:
Worrell said some of the goals for the administrator would be to improve Carmel’s ranking as a bicycle-friendly city from bronze to silver, getting national attention in publications and increasing the number of electric-car charging stations within the city.

So in other words, their new "bicycle administrator" - now “transportation development coordinator” - can safely ignore watts going on with bicycles, and with careful work their roads will be clogged with ("large" and "heavy") battery-powered vehicles that will still damage properties and injure and kill, but will do so in a more "Eco-Friendly" way. Good stuff! Congratulations to the City of Carmel!

https://property.bangkokpost.com/news/1 ... t-projects

Starts:
... property developer Sansiri Plc has created a ride-sharing service platform at its residential projects and community malls, expecting to expand to all projects this year, mainly in Bangkok.
Includes:
Sansiri announced a collaboration with six companies...
... and:
The six companies are AP Honda (a local distributor of Japanese motorcycles), Uber (the world's leading ride-sharing service), Ofo (a dockless bike-sharing service), Haupcar (the first car-sharing platform in Thailand), Sharge (a provider of electric vehicle charging points) and EA Anywhere (a provider of electric charging stations).
(Wiki:)
A.P. Honda is generally known as Honda Motorcycle Thailand. Its headquarters are in Samut Prakan, Thailand. A.P. Honda plays a significant role as a center in distributing Honda motorcycles to Asian and European markets.
... and article includes:
AP Honda will provide three eco-friendly motorcycles for the service platform at the Habito Community Mall.

Suchart Arunsaengroj, vice-president of AP Honda, said the company plans to introduce electric and hybrid motorcycles next month at the Bangkok International Motor Show.

But Mr Suchart said AP Honda cannot disclose any further details in terms of model name and retail price, or whether relying on local production or imports from Japan.

In October, Tokyo-based parent firm Honda Motor Co held a showcase of the Honda PCX Hybrid and PCX Electric at the 45th Tokyo Motor Show. Those two models will be introduced this year for commercial purposes.

"At the moment, AP Honda plans for the local showcase in March, while deliveries to customers are expected around the last quarter of 2018," Mr Suchart said. "Three motorcycles for Sansiri are set for the same timeline of deliveries, due to both parties having to finalise how to provide the sharing service platform."

Sharge and EA Anywhere will partner with Sansiri to provide charging service for electric cars and motorcycles under the Smart Move platform.

The New York Daily News, officially titled Daily News, is an American newspaper based in New York City. As of May 2016, it was the ninth-most widely circulated daily newspaper in the United States.
Pedal to the metal on electric bicycles: Stop the crackdown, then change the laws:
http://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/peda ... -1.3818945

:)

Starts:
Every day, we are seeing developments in clean energy technology that move us toward renewable sources and away from fossil fuels. Electric power will define the future of our transportation; it’s only a matter of how quickly our city embraces the change.

Cities across the country and around the world are beefing up their public transit by making bold investments in electric-powered vehicles, from electric buses to electric bicycles, to mitigate congestion and reduce emissions.

Yet here in New York City, we’re still fighting the tide — with a backward, punitive approach.

Ends:
Going full steam ahead on electric transit — whether that means new public buses or bicycles — will bring us a long way toward reducing our carbon footprint, with big health and environmental benefits. While President Trump fights on the side of coal in the supposed war on the dirty fuel, we must insist on smarter and bolder solutions.

Rafael Espinal represents parts of East New York, Cypress Hills, Ocean Hill-Brownsville and Bushwick in the City Council.
GO Rafael!

Holland’s isn’t the only bike shop in town. But sometimes it feels like it. Certainly, it is in a class all its own with its large storefront on Orange Avenue and that it seems to have been around forever. But, with recent changes, it has outclassed even itself. It has added new services, products, and more recently, with the acquisition of Bikes and Beyond, another location as well.
Includes:
In the last year, Holland’s has grown in a number of ways. It opened two new spaces near the original store on Orange Avenue, including a new Service Center on 10th Street (next to Clayton’s Take-Out) and an Electric Bike Showroom, just down from the main shop at 969 Orange Avenue. Young says, “Most recently [on February 1], we opened our new rental operation ‘Holland’s Bikes & Beyond’ at the Ferry Landing…where we rent all types of bicycles, including e-bikes (electric bikes), tandems and quadricycles (2 and 4 wheel bikes), and offer light bicycle maintenance and repair services as well.”
