The Missoulian is a daily newspaper printed in Missoula, Montana. Its print readership is 46,111 on Sundays, 33,590 on weekdays. The newspaper has been owned by Lee Enterprises since 1959. The Missoulian is the largest published newspaper in western Montana. The Missoulian is distributed throughout the city of Missoula, Montana, and also throughout most of Western Montana.
... and:
Missoula is a city in the U.S. state of Montana and is the county seat of Missoula County. It is located along the Clark Fork River near its confluences with the Bitterroot and Blackfoot Rivers in western Montana and at the convergence of five mountain ranges, thus is often described as the "hub of five valleys". In 2016, the United States Census Bureau estimated the city's population at 72,364[9] and the population of the Missoula Metropolitan Area at 116,130. After Billings, Missoula is both the second largest city and metropolitan area in Montana. Missoula is home to the University of Montana, a public research university.
Mmmm... A "hilly" town plus has lots of university students... LOVE (re "selling" electric traction for bikes).

Venture-capital backed bike-share tech firm LimeBike eyes Missoula launch :
http://missoulian.com/news/local/ventur ... 0c035.html

Starts:
A bicycle- and electric scooter-sharing tech company called LimeBike is looking at entering the Missoula market and has sent representatives to meet with city and University of Montana officials.

LimeBike, popular in cities like Seattle and Austin, allows customers to rent its bikes for $1 per hour and leave them anywhere. Using a smartphone app, you can find bikes near you, unlock one and be on your way.
Includes:
For a higher price, the company also has electric scooters and electric bikes for longer distances and for people who can’t pedal.
Hehe... Kids watt "can't pedal" going to University. Truly a "rare breed". Hummm... In a city the ""hub of five valleys"... electric assist? ... or no.

Alway imagine and fear the "worst". And your dreams can come true!

Three hundred and four cyclists are needed to be in with a chance of becoming record holders.
... and includes: The current record for the largest parade of e-bikes was set in 2016 at Fountain Valley in the United States, when 303 riders took part.

Watt???

On ES, I can find exactly ONE "notice of parade upcoming"...

Pedego Electric Bikes will move its headquarters to Fountain Valley on Saturday and attempt to set a world record for the most number of electric bicycle riders in a parade.
Includes:
At 2 p.m. Saturday, the company plans to host a parade down the bike path to set a record for the most electric bikes ever in a parade.
With no standard set yet, Guinness World Records has recommended the minimum of 250 people, but DiCostanzo is hopeful that about 500 people will participate.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own electric bicycles, even if they are not Pedego branded

South Lake Tahoe man sentenced to 7 years in prison for DUI crash:
http://southtahoenow.com/story/03/06/20 ... -dui-crash

Starts:
South Lake Tahoe resident Patrick Bryan Baker was sentenced to seven years in state prison after he pleaded no contest to one felony count driving with a blood alcohol level over .08% and causing injury.

On August 27, 2017, the 42-year-old Baker drove his Nakto Electric Bicycle through a red light at a high rate of speed, hitting two pedestrians who were attempting to step into a crosswalk on Lake Tahoe Boulevard near Rufus Allen Blvd. The pedestrians, a couple in their 50's who were visiting from Southern California, both suffered broken arms and one also had an injured leg. Following the collision, Baker appeared as if he was preparing to leave the scene, picking up beer cans that had spilled from his bike onto the ground and trying to get back on the bike, before being told by witnesses that he needed to stay. When South Lake Tahoe Police attempted to detain Baker, he resisted and refused to put his hands behind his back and pulled away from officers. In response, the officers had to take Baker to the ground in order to arrest him. A subsequent breath tests determined Baker's blood alcohol to be 30/.31%.

The Chicago Tribune is a daily newspaper based in Chicago, Illinois, United States, owned by Tronc, Inc.
... and they copy stuff from the Naperville Sun newspaper...
(Wiki:)
Naperville is a city in DuPage and Will counties in the U.S. state of Illinois, and a suburb of Chicago. In a 2010 study assessing cities with populations exceeding 75,000, Naperville was ranked as the wealthiest city in the Midwest and the eleventh wealthiest in the nation. It was ranked among the nation's safest cities by USAToday and Business Insider.

Naperville was voted the second-best place to live in the United States by Money magazine in 2006 and it was rated first on the list of best cities for early retirement in 2013 by Kiplinger. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 141,853, which was estimated to have increased to 147,112 by July 2015. It is the fifth-largest city in Illinois.

Director of Recreation Brad Wilson said the only type allowed will be pedal-assist electric bicycles, or Class 1 ebikes. They have pedals like any other bike, but are equipped with a motor of no more than 750 watts that can propel riders up to 20 mph.

Off to Munich for the International Passivhaus Conference:
https://www.treehugger.com/green-archit ... rence.html

Starts:
Starting on Friday, the leaders of the Passive House movement around the world are meeting in Munich for the International Passive House conference. Passive House, or Passivhaus, is probably the toughest energy efficiency standard anywhere; houses that meet the standard have super insulation, minimal thermal bridging, high quality windows and controlled ventilation. They are comfortable to live in and cost almost nothing to heat and cool.
Includes:
When you live in multifamily housing, you often don't need to own a big SUV to go to Walmart for your weekly shopping; there is enough density to support a decent number of stores within walking or biking distance. Since transportation now consumes more energy than housing, that's important. In a city of a reasonable density, those electric bikes I have been talking about can really do the job, carry what you need, and take up a lot less space.

The Global Times is a daily Chinese tabloid newspaper under the auspices of the People's Daily newspaper, focusing on international issues from a communist Chinese perspective. Circulation 1,500,000 (copies printed Mon-Sat), Chinese edition 200,000 (copies printed Mon-Sat), English edition
Safety is the most important thing for takeout food couriers :
http://www.globaltimes.cn/content/1092054.shtml

Starts:
I recently read in Laodong Daily about a child who was hit and killed by an electric bicycle driven by an express delivery courier. Although traffic police declared that the courier is guilty, the courier can't afford to pay any compensation to the victim's family. His company also claimed that, because the courier is not their official "employee," they are not responsible.

I sympathize with this family, and I also know that with the rise of China's takeout food industry, traffic accidents caused by electric bicycles are also increasing. According to Laodong Daily, in January of 2017, a delivery boy on an electric bicycle was hit and killed by a car. In June of that same year, another courier on an electric bicycle seriously injured a man.

Why are such avoidable tragedies so common in China? In my opinion, the Chinese takeout industry has a very low entry barrier for its couriers, such as having no requirements for their educational background or work experience.
So. One-two/a few injuries and deaths each month? Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation estimated in 2016 there are more than 700 people killed in road accidents across China every day? NO idea how many lives have been saved by folks riding around on "little" electric two-wheelers.

Hehe... Electric bicycle "drivers". :)

Locals told News 8 the bikes, which users can rent via an app, are invading their neighborhoods.

E-Bike Battery Cell Production Based in Europe Gets Full EU Support:
http://www.bike-eu.com/home/nieuws/2018 ... t-10133069

Starts:
BRUSSELS, Belgium – On 22 and 23 February 2018, on the occasion of the EU Industry Day under the umbrella of the European Commission, discussions on various industrial aspects were held. Included was the founding of battery cell production in Europe. Here it was emphasized that it’s fully supported by Brussels through the European Battery Alliance.
Includes:
Mass-production of Li-Ion cells

TerraE Holding GmbH plans to mass-produce Lithium-Ion cells in Germany with a capacity of 34 GWh by 2028. The factories are to be operated as ‘foundries’, which means that TerraE Holding GmbH builds and operates the factories where Lithium-Ion cells will be manufactured according to customer’s specifications.

TerraE Holding GmbH was founded in May 2017 after six member companies of KLIB (Kompetenznetzwerk Lithium Ionen Batterien) had formed an initiative to build a large-scale production facility.

(They say:)
Welcome to endurancebusiness.com (formerly triathlonbusiness.com), the dedicated information site for the international endurance sport industry.
([Cough Cough] Ebikes as an "endurance sport"... )

Eurobike goes ‘rad’ with show visitor/exhibitor cycling expansion:
https://www.endurancebusiness.com/2018/ ... expansion/

Starts:
For Eurobike 2018, Messe Friedrichshafen and the provider of the app Radbonus will be launching an extensive campaign to stimulate cycling traffic in the vicinity of the exhibition grounds.

The 27th Eurobike will take place in in Friedrichshafen, Germany, from Sunday, July 8 to Tuesday, July 10, 2018, from 09:00 to 18:00 CET, and is open to trade visitors and accredited journalists only.
(Wiki:)
Friedrichshafen is an industrial city on the northern shoreline of Lake Constance (the Bodensee) in Southern Germany, near both the borders of Switzerland and Austria. It is the district capital (Kreisstadt) of the Bodensee district in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg. Friedrichshafen has a population of c. 58,000.
... and:
Baden-Württemberg is a state in Germany located in the southwest, east of the Upper Rhine that forms the border with France. It is Germany’s third largest state in terms of size and population, with an area of 35,751 square kilometres (13,804 sq mi) and 10.8 million inhabitants. The state capital and largest city is Stuttgart.
... AND: (Giggle Translate)
Messe Friedrichshafen GmbH is the owner and operator of the trade fair grounds Neue Messe Friedrichshafen , which is one of the most modern and largest exhibition grounds in Baden-Württemberg.
Article Includes:
For distances of up to 5 kilometres, the Eurobike team notes that the bicycle is faster than the car in urban traffic. With an electric propulsion system, the bicycle can beat the car even at distances of up to 10 kilometres (according to Germany’s Federal Environment Agency umweltbundesamt.de). And even cyclists without an electric drive system only take a few minutes more than a car driver over this distance. Incidentally, 10K is the radius in which around 50% of Eurobike show visitors spend the night.
8) OK. Now my motorized bike has a "electric propulsion system". No, wait. An "electronic propulsion system". ("It's imported".)

... plus article:
If only one in five people from Friedrichshafen and the surrounding area were to switch to cycling during Eurobike, the show organisers note that ‘traffic jams and the search for parking would be history’.
Well DUH. Hehe....

... AND notes:
In order to boost cycling traffic around Eurobike, Messe Friedrichshafen is now launching a comprehensive campaign for 2018, which will be implemented together with app provider Radbonus. The Radbonus app records the bicycle kilometres traveled by each user and rewards them with a bonus system – sort of like ‘frequent-flyer miles for cyclists’.
