Beautiful looking bike announced by Haibike - talks about a "mid-drive motor fully from carbon" and "monocoque build method". I would be a bit scared to leave this locked up without a 24 hour security guard!

Looks like a rendering ;)
Yeah, totally. look under the crank. The artist even signed it. Photographers don't normally sign photos, since they captured, not created the art.

well spotted guys - I didn't notice that.

The article also mentions the "Nyon" system, an all-in-one, computer, gps and fitness trainer, with topography, music, sms......

Yeah I think it fits the definition of vapourware in the mould of the Audi e-bike...except that it's Haibike and that makes it far more likely to be headed for production in 2015 as they say. Not to say I wouldn't like to ride one but going by the current lineup, they're likely to cost north of €7K, for a 400Wh S-Pedelec. Want carbon wheels too? Make that €10K.

It's a nice design, although I am still not sure of the falling rate on that suspension.

It does seem like it's pitching at elitism. Bloody nice design though.

The best thing about carbon is all the very nice steel frames being thrown out for next to nothing.
If you can put up with an extra kilo or 2 you can build a very nice sub 9 kg bike for about 1/10 the selling price of a carbon wonder. Add batteries and a motor and the 2 kilos don't mean much. It's nice to see them pushing the envelope in material technology but it's not really a practical bike most people would buy.

Link might not work because it's sold, but

the link works, but.... how real is it? The seller is based in Latvia?

Ouch. Latvia. Doubt he'll get that bike.

There was quite a few ebikes to be had for under ten dollars awhile back on ebike direct from china. Except when the box arrives, it's a crate with crap and a few old SLA batteries inside. Signed for delivery? Paypal won't cough up.

It's back.

Tried looking around Ebay, report suspicious activity, but just went round in circles.

This thread could be all "vaporware"

Bidding is up at $2500 !!

And how genuine is the new Stealth Bomber at $2400 with 2 days to go ?...

That last one just sold for $2850..
I do hope these are genuine , or somebody is in for a big Paypay dispute session.
How/why is someone apparently based in Latvia, selling an item that is listed as being located in Melbourne ?
Maybe one of our members knows who bought this ??

The Stealth Bomber looks like it is being sold by a person in USA who sells makeup for a living - maybe their Ebay account was hacked, if they show so many favourable reviews.

Hey I noticed that Stealth too. Dodgy to say the least.

The carbon frame DIY does have an issue - hardtail. Actually it has two, it's not really light enough to warrant not using metal. My last aluminium custom weighs 3.2 kg with CrMo rear. Penny wise and pound foolish over the total build.

Some months I weigh 88 kg. Some months I weigh 92 kg.
I better go for a ride - currently its the latter.

Shelling out thousands on eBay for anything is crazy. It's great for parts and the like where you can take the Chance on maybe a couple hundred. And then there is the risk of freight damage especially a carbon frame.

I still buy my wheels from a shop, being able to check it is true and undamaged is worth the extra few dollars.
I find bargains all the time in bike shops, they seem to discount heavily on perfectly good old stock when the new bit of shinny comes in. The best ones are the older shops with stuff piled up everywhere. I don't bother with the bling bling shops.
