I just burned out my motor and possible controller also. Currie ezip trails stock 24 volt 450 watt motor upgraded to 36 volt was going up hill awhile. motor smells burnt controller also was hot and smelled burnt. I need an upgrade a motor rated for 36 volt and at least 800 watts. If it is a kit with a controller and throttle that would be better. looking to spend around 100 bucks not much more. It must fit without any serious modifications. please help me out here. I am looking also but dont know what would fit.

For a bolt in replacement, this will run 17-18 MPH and won't overheat as easily.

I'm not sure I understand. You burned out the stock motor with a 36v controller? Others who understand this better might offer something, but I'm thinking when you overclock the motor and go uphill it starts trying to seriously suck some amps and just can't because the wattage is already used up on the volts. So it sort of overpacks.

If you have a 36v controller already, does it still work? Is it a Currie 1,000w?

Your seller offers the 800w motor for $72 but the 1,000w is $819. Something is wrong, he might have meant $89 and doesn't notice the 1 in the middle. Except with the controller and throttle it's over $1,500. Totally ridiculous.

My advice is if you're doing some serious hills as it sounds, go to 1,000w or better. http://www.monsterscooterparts.com/36-volt-1000-watt-motor-controller-throttle-kit-standard.html It's going to cost you a lot more to keep replacing parts.

Can you show us a picture of the original motor? There have been suggestions for both a geared motor(MY18Z) and non-geared. Which does your bike have?

looks like the controller is not burned out the motor makes a little noise when i put power to it but the motor is shot as it smells burnt and is dead except for a noise when first engaged power to it.

this is a currie upgrade for it . it should fit with no problem what will the performance be compared to the 24 volt 450 watt motor at 36 volts before it burned out. it should be a little faster and bolt in without modifying anything. is this going to work? i will try to call currie technologies tommorow but if you can save me the phone call please let me know.

ok will this 48 volt motor work with my 36 volt controller. will the motor bolt in. I could upgrade to a 48 volt controller and add 1 more lead ass battery later. please let me know.

hooked up to 36 volts it should run at 750 watts and might be a little more durable than the 36 volt 800 watt motors. is this true

I'd say the 48v 1000w motor will work the same as the 36v 800w if you run it with the 36v controller. I'd suggest the 36v 1000w is your better prospect for going uphill. But not that discontinued one you posted.

That is a geared motor with helical gears. It is very quiet compared to the MY18Z. I would try to find a direct replacement for the XYD-16 since it is good motor. It probably could be run on 36 volts but carefully . A direct drive motor will be much less efficient and not work as well.

Thats fine but will the 1000 watt motor bolt on to my bike or am i just throwing money away I am ordering something today what i need to know is what will need to be done to mount it to my bike. this is important as what good is a new motor if I cant use it. I guess i will just have to order something and hopefully someone can tell me how to mount it. no anything less than 800 watts and 32 volts is a waste of money as it will burn out again. I am fat and the bike is heavy with lead ass batteries. I weigh 250 and the bike is over 100 pounds with nothing in the back basket. the 1000 watt 48 volt motor is the logical choice as i can use it with 36 volts until i can afford a forth 22 ah battery and 48 volt controller. I just pray it will bolt up without spending money for custom modifications.

yep e bay has about 10 of them most of them with free shipping all for 94 to 97 dollar range all look the same and are rated at 48 volts and 1000 watts. My three 22 Ah lead ass batteries are mounted in the triangle of the currie. the original battery box on the back are gone when it was upgraded to 36 volts but the frame which held the battery packs remains. It will be simple to mount a forth 13 pound 22 Ah battery on the other side the new motor is on for even weight distribution. The original battery pack was 15 pounds and the bike was 80 pounds. with four 13 pound batteries instead of the stock 15 pound pack the total weight will be around 120 pounds. 80 - 15 = 65 + 52 = 117 pounds at 48 volts and 1000 watts. total bike weight with rider and 30 pounds in back basket = 400 pounds.

This is a picture of the bike stock It had the option of adding a second battery pack so there is framework on both sides not just the side the motor is on. I have a web cam in this and will post pictures of the bike the way it is now at 36 volts and when I add the forth battery. note I will be doing the work myself this time as I can not afford paying over 250 dollars for an engineer to upgrade it. May get a little help from friends that will help for a few beers. I will take up close pictures of the motor and mounting plate so someone can tell me what will be needed to install the new motor.

will send more pictures tommorow when there is more daylight had trouble with web cam and had to install different software and i started running out of daylight.

new motor has to fit or i will have no choice but to scrap the bike and batteries at the scrap yard for money by weight. the motor is ordered and will be here in three days. let me know what i need to hook this up.

the pictures show how i mounted the batteries. note I can turn the bike upside down and the batteries wont move. also the guy who charged me 260 bucks for the upgrade removed the stock 24 volt pack as well as the electrodes. the fuse and charger plug are mounted on the side of the controller box as shown in the picture. the 36 volt controller is mounted on the other side of the box with the wires going into the controller box as shown. It went about 18 mph on flat before the stock motor took a shit.
will add one more battery on the frame where the extra pack would go and replace the 36 volt controller later on. should go 27 mph on flat then. I really hope the new motor will fit. I got lots of money in this.

$300 on sale for the bike
$130 for 3 22Ah batteries
$15 - 36 volt controller
$10 - thumb throttle - not installed still using dogmans throttle thanks
$260 - for upgrade labor
$30 - new brake parts

about $750 ----- + forth battery $45 + 48 volt 1000 watt motor - $100 + $20 49 volt controller = $915 + new tires and tubes = $1000

for 48 volt 1000 watt upgraded currie. top speed aprox 25 to 27 mph distance aprox 20 miles at 10 to 15 mph.
