FYI, in hopes this info helps others:
Single Digit 7 brakes ("Avid SD7 bicycle mechanical rim brake") manufactured from June 2014 to May 2017 have been recalled.
Date code is printed inside brake arm.
If you have a set, you can return them to SRAM for exchange.
Talked with an SRAM rep this morning by phone, exchange seems simple.

I've found the SD7 to be an excellent brake, but there was a manufacturing defect in some.
Saw this personally on one set last year, when the locator pin fell out of brake arm before I installed the brake.

Update.
SRAM recalled "Avid Single Digit 7" brakes manufactured between June 1, 2014 and May 26, 2017.
I returned three sets of the recalled brakes to SRAM for exchange under the recall program.
They shipped me three replacement sets.
I went to install the new brakes. The locator pin fell out of one. So I took a close look at them.
Found that the replacements were manufactured in mid-May, 2017.
Yes, their replacements were manufactured during the period being recalled.

Product recalls happen, its part of life, can live with that. But shipping out defective replacements? Nope.

Notified SRAM of the problem with their recall program,
then bought new brakes from a different manufacturer.
