XC rim or DH rim for 1500w hub motor?

My vote would be DH all the way. You won’t really get the weight benefit of the lighter rim on your ebike, and xc rims usually have a narrower width as well. For my hub motor, I wanted as fat a tire as possible because of all the beneifits of more air volume. Sun rhyno lite xl is a great and cheap rim imho.

Off road riding can be hard on wheels, sometimes even more with riders who have little experience. I suggest a robust Old school DH/Freeride rim. My preference would go to the Sun Double Track, laced with DT Swiss 14ga spokes and long nipples. Drill the eyelets out, and use nipple washers instead.

Use wire beaded tires, as wide as your frame does clear safely.

Yes. The MTX39 is a very good choice too. Very similar rim from the same manufacturer, a little lighter, sleeved and made with harder Alu grade.
I have used them many times.

I like the thick, softer alu of the Double Track. It can be re-shaped with the mallet when damaged, again and again.
